Re: AntiVirus Poll 2006

I voted for Bit Defender (Pro) as that is what I usually use. But I am not using anything at the moment. I may go back to BD free as I like having just an on demand scanner and that can't possibly be a variable in certain problems like a resident AV can. (That is why I uninstalled BD for a bit ...chasing down a problem and BD was a variable that needed to be eliminated for the time being).

I voted NOD 32 because that it what I use.

KAV would have been my other vote since it is worthy of recognition.

For the people that use nod32 here, what firewall do most use with it?
Once a bug report I submitted to Agnatium gets a response, I'll be using Outpost, but for now I'll be using Windows Firewall on my laptop

I was testing onecare out. It ran very smooth on my pc. No hitches at all. You really cant beat the price of the final release of $50 for up to three pc's. Actually....pc cillin 2006 was $40 renewall for me and that was for up to three pc's as well.

Using Avast for 1.5 years.
Good updating and zero problems with it.
Updates well under my XP limited user account.

I had used NAV since way back in the DOS days, but started to see issues with bloat and system slowdowns. I wasn't real crazy about the phone-home production activation that started in 2003 (or was it 2004).

I tried both KAV and NOD32 on a trial basis. I was AMAZED at how much more responsive the computer was, and it's a high end piece to start with (P4 3.4 with 2 gig).

KAV acted a bit flaky during the trial, so I bought licenses for NOD32 and have been extremely happy at its effectiveness and small footprint.

I will be starting to move my clients over to it as their renewals come up.

I have 3 active license right now with about 9 months left on them. PC Cillin runs very good on my system also. Both work great. Cant justify getting rid of PC-cillin when its all paid up for.

I'm running AVG free version. I also have NAV Corporate Version that I could install but I am hesitant to do so because of the problems that the home version caused on my machine in the past. I did hear that the NAV Corporate Version is more efficient and causes less problems then the home version but I'll hold off for now and keep AVG.

Linux doesn't need any AV.

But I run ClamAV on Kmail for fun, just to see what Road Runner doesn't catch. And RR occasionally does miss!

It's free, and can be set to update check as frequently as desired (hourly on my box).

Avast talks, my wife thinks that's cute. For my part, it works well and, best of all, it's free.
