| reply to inciter We just gave birth to our third child and asked specifically if we could videotape. We ended up taking video and digital pictures. We also agreed that we would seek another hospital is ours didn't approve of video or photography. HIPPA in it's strictest interpretation should not disallow photos of the building in general but you may run into difficulties with taking pictures of building entrances or exits of specialty facilities like Cancer, Rehabilitation, or other special types of facilities. -- huh? | AIM | Utopia does not exist. |

I'm sure you can not unless you get permission to do so. If you just go in and start snapping away or even start snapping away at kids in the play ground, I bet you will be approached by staff or the police. If it's a sport or open event yeah sure football games baseball but unless it's an open campus or your doing a year book with permission good luck.
You know what would be better if you did this behind some bushes give it a try you have the right to do so from what I understand.

I did have one incident where a student threated to shove my camera up another student butt. I decided it wasn't worth it try and take a picture in that situation. And the school doesn't have a playground.
I'm thinking that school is a public place similar to park or sidewalk. Is there any reason why it wouldn't be? |

| Oh yeah sure if your a student your not going to encounter much of a fuss, cept the occasional student that wishes not to be photographed as you pointed out. Sure you can do it how many cell pic phones you think are in school?
I would say you could pull quite a few fun candied shots in fact. But can you put them on the INTERNET without the students permission? That would be the test... -- Playing Table Tennisis not a matter of life or Death, It's much more important than that. |

If a student asks me not take their picture, do I legaly have to stop taking their picture? Is it considered private propery because not everyone can enter the school? Or is it considered public property because it's owned by the government? |

| reply to reub2000 My old high school (I switched schools recently but my girlfriend still goes there) has a ban of all photography and video recording and cell phones and iPods and anything else you can think of that is not a pencil, paper, or chalk.
They are very strict about photography, mostly camera phones due to taking pictures of tests, exams, and finals. Oh and one kid took a picture up a girls skirt without asking with a camera phone.
I have brought my dSLR to school to photograph evens such as Powerderpuff, Halloween parades, Spirit week etc... Administration didn't have a problem with that, one because it was for a project, and two you will never see a student there with a dSLR, only p&s cams.
As long as you don't take photos up girls skits or of sensitive material, I don't think its a problem. They do have a problem with publishing student names, information, and photos without a parental consent form, at least in New Jersey (You cant even use the internet until your parent or guardian signs a form allowing you to even touch a computer). I have had to exclude students names and photos from the school website before, whether or not the student said okay, it was up to the parent or guardian.
Overall I would definitely ask permission before I just go in and start taking photos. -- -eXodus |
