I'm just curious what your opinions are for this software if you have used it or are using it. Basically, there's a strong possibility we'll be merging several LANs together from different sites to one big WAN and wondering if Ciscoworks (and its $10K attached fee heh) is worth it for remote troubleshooting and data reporting of network cisco switches and routers?
Thanks! |

| I guess it depends on how many devices you are planning to manage. We use CiscoWorks to manage our LAN and edge devices. I work at a bank with 32 branches in a MPLS mesh. We use CiscoWorks to manage roughly 60 Catalyst 3560's, 32 Cisco 2600 MPLS routers, 2 Firewalls, etc. For simple configs, and event reporting...you can't beat the interface of CW. Everything is right there in one spot. For 10-20 devices, I would stick with Syslog, SSH, and SNMP for data reporting and even remote troubleshooting. If you are talking 25-50 monitored devices, CW may be a great investment. Just my two cents...
Hope this helps! Aaron |

| Hmmm, yeah, all in all I think we're looking at about 40-50 catalyst switches, 12 routers, and maybe half dozen firewalls we may be inheriting. I'm currently running their eval version on a 2003 server and it looks okay so far. -- "He who hits head on wall, probably deserved it." |
