Looking like this weekend might be a GO!! If the weather holds out on Saturday it should be nice shooting conditions, winds are not forecasted to be to strong either.
I'd have to wait until week after next.. at least right now looking at my dates.

I was actually thinking of taking a trip to D.C. on Sunday. This may give me the incentive I need. Hopefully this wacky weather we're having will stabalize and be nice on Sunday.
Well, here's what I use for local detailed forecast information »www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/fin···y=Sunday . It's the Weather Underground website for Reston, VA with the current forecast for Sunday. I would suggest you dress for wet and chilly (and a hint of snow, coming in from WV). Looks likely to be overcast at the moment, which I prefer (just keep the sky out of the shots).

If all else fails, you can take lots of pictures of Japanese tourists and photographers taking pictures of the cherry blossoms -- and the Japanese tourists. I don't suppose you speak Japanese by any chance, do you?

Oh, ... and before I forget ... if you've got a monopod, bring it, also. Sometimes the Park Service Police have unreasonable paranoia (or other objections) regarding tripods.

Latest update from Tuesday (I think), at »www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co···443.html .

The trees should start blooming Friday and Saturday with a peak on Monday or Tuesday. DeFeo said the blossoms should last 10 to 14 days based on the latest weather forecasts.
So, Sunday might be okay, if you're trying to avoid a weekday. Maybe shoot late and get the evening light? Besides, that should get you back to Greenwich in time for the next snowfall!

Ever been to a temple in Japan when they blossom? The pictures that I have seen are soooo spectacular in how those flowers look.

That is what happened last year, they bloomed then a storm came rolling in and blew them all down before I had a chance to get some shots of them, seems to me you need to be able to leave within a days notice of them blooming to get some good shots.

No change in the peak dates so far. Here's today's article -- »www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co···_pf.html .

Now, there will be some blossoms showing prior to 27 March, I'm sure. They don't all burst into bloom on the same day. (There are actually different species down there, as I recall.)

The real imponderable is the weather and I note we've got snow forecast for tomorrow, but that may be too close to the expected bloom date to have any real impact. But the really frustrating thing that happens sometimes is that just as the trees come into full bloom, the wind gets very brisk and strips them away almost overnight. And, with the Tidal Basin immediately adjacent to the tidal reaches of the Potomac, the wind is pretty much unhindered if this happens.

Subaru,

I'm not sure why you say that. That particular URL still says 27 March - 1 April for peak blooms. I've seen no cherry blossoms out here so far, of course the way I read it, it's still 19 March!
So best to go after the 27th then it seems.

When I near the word "Peak" bloom I figure some are open before the Peak Bloom time.

I've lived near D.C. almost all my life, but never went to see the cherry blossoms. I never thought in my whole life to actually go there and take pictures.

I guess all that will change, after seeing this thread!

I used to live there and once the blossoms are out it is truly spectacular. Be aware that if it rains or gets windy while they are out then the will come down in a hurry.

matt
Question so if I go on March 25th Will Some be in Bloom?

Here is a link for the predicted peak bloom period

Who knows though, with 80° last weekend and the much cooler temps right now.
It's probably better to blow a day off from work and go during the week.

I think this is the page in the Washington Post that you want, »www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co···915.html . Yes, you may have to register to read it (but registration is free). The 'for print' page is at »www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co···_pf.html

Now, let's see if there's a benchmark for further updates. . . . well, apparently not.

I would suggest you check out the Metro page of the Washington Post regularly. You can find it at »www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co···nav=left and, if you check it daily, should be able to easily find updated articles on what's happening. Hope that helps; it's enough of a problem even for those of us who live here!

I was there las year. Trying to get there in full bloom is difficult because varying weather it changes when the trees bloom. I had to make 2 trips to get there when they were blooming. I haven't gone to the festivities however so I can't comment on that.

And why is this in hardware/tech? Shouldn't this be in the Washington/VA forum?
Funny I posted in that forum, NOT One person responded

And I'm wondering how in which way to shoot it?

I might have to make 2 trips myself
