1 edit | [Speed] 16/1 in Sarasota
All,
Last week, I was encountering some issues with variability in my download speed tests. One test would be high, then a subsequent one low. The upload speeds, however, were consistently over 900 kbits/sec.
Calling Comcast Support, the tech (Amber) informed me that me that I was configured for 16 megabits/sec down and 1 megabit/sec up! Even she was surprised and was going to contact her supervisor for further information. I had formerly been on the 8/768 package.click START to re-test
Coincident with this, I learned that there was a firmware update for my WRT54GX ver.2 router. So, I'm now running firmware 2.00.15 and I'm getting the full 16/1 speeds. I did have to tweak my receive window buffer size up to 262144.
Below is a speed test from the ANL Web 100 Server this morning at about 10:00 am Eastern.
eb100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.2.1e click START to begin Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 1.00Mb/s running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 16.01Mb/s Your Workstation is connected to a Cable/DSL modem
I'm pretty confident that this is not "bursting" as I was also able to download the 512 megabit Optimum Online test file at the full 2 megabytes/sec.
I assume this is all a preemptive move by Comcast as Verizon has been laying fiber to bring FiOS to Sarasota.
Comments, anyone?
Ron
