You know what really makes the iPod (and I don't think its name or status) - it is the appearance of the iPod and its the accessories for the iPod. I used to own an archos, a creative zen and a rio and none of them had anywhere near the accessory count the iPod does. I used to have to use a cassette deck adapter to listen to my other MP3 players while driving and those sound horrible. Now I'm out walking listening to my iPod and I get in my car and I can open my glove box and plug my iPod into my iCruze and listen to my iPod (and control and charge it) via my head unit. Then I come home and I put my nano in my Logitech stereo system in my bedroom and I can listen to my iPod without having to wear headphones. The only way to get other MP3s to work with those sorts of accessories is to use AUX-in jacks. These days someone might buy an iPod just because they can so easily integrate it into their environment. -- »web.mac.com/jwsmiths/iWeb |
