Please vote on what modem you think is currently the "best" modem for use with Comcast HSI. After voting, post with both your selection and why you consider the modem you said was "best" to be the best modem. Posts that detail original specific features/aspects of the modem that make it "best" are sought.

If you selected other, respond with what modem you were considering and do the same.

The Moto SB5100 may not be the best, but it has been the best for me and that's about all we can comment on huh.

I chose the Linksys BEFCMU10 v4.
The v4 uses the Broadcom BCM3349 chipset which has proven to be a solid performer.

This is my second Linksys modem which also worked flawlessly until I retired it.
A great feature of this v4 modem is the information available in the modem diagnostic page. Unlike most modems that do not have the "Provisioned Rates" available, this modem does.

I would have voted for the Motorola SB4200, but it isn't up there, so I went with the next best thing, the SA DPC2100.

There are many RCA and Moto modem's in operation today that are not on the list.I think other is going to be the big winner.

The list actually reflects current distributed or available modems.

Not for my area it doesn't. Half are put out any more (Toshibas) others aren't on the list that are (4100s & 4200s, Arris VoIP modems) and so on.

I realy don't know that one modem is "better" than the other one, I've had motorola and now have an Ambit-I've asked the techs who work for Time-Warner(Road-Runner) and they've acknowledged that modems don't make a difference and I've yet to see a difference between having the two-Motoroloa(2yrs)-Ambit(2yrs) I think that the service itself is what matters-Now if someone would take a poll on Cable vs Dsl then that's a REAL hot topic!!

I have both a 5120 and a 5100 (keeps comcast from saying.. It must be your modem ) The 5100 is the workhorse though and gets my vote..

I've also owned and used a PCX5000 and an old RCA.. Neither of these would get a vote from me as the best.

If everything was equal, all modems would perform the same. You have to consider the past a present issues with a modem. Look at buggy firmware versions, hardware issues, noise issues in a QAM256 network, etc. It comes down to which modem would you choose to lesson the possible negative variables.

I would go with the 5120. I have had one for about three years, and five speed upgrades. Knock on wood, it has been outstanding.

Also, it seems to be the modem I take out the least on TC's.

I got the 5120 for the new promotion that i just joined.

I sold the 5100 and made $40 (considering i got $75 back last time with HSI!) It was a good modem too.

I only have experiences with Motorola ones so i have no clue about the others...

Why is the Motorola SB5100 getting more votes than the Motorola SB5120?

Been around longer.
