| B&W???
B&W seems to be the new (old renewed) 'in' thing. However, I am of the opinion that off shoots of total B&W is also quite interesting and wonder why I don't see any of that posted here. What I am referring to is brown or sepia tones but deep ones done much like the B&W. Do you find those not interesting or just find the B&W more fun? -- JKK Age is a very high price to pay for my maturity. I enjoy playing with sepia type toning more than plain old B&W. I play with it a lot, but it is hard to get that "just right" look to them sometimes. -- When you have to shoot, shoot; don't talk. |

| reply to jaykaykay Personally I prefer B&W but I suppose it depends on the individual and what they are out to achieve. I went shooting with a friend Sunday, she shot over 200 pictures and I think most of them were in sepia, myself I would have chosen B&W but each to their own I suppose.
What I really prefer is shooting in color, then use something like Photoshop to adjust to what ever best fits the image, this way if I'm not happy with the results or want the picture to be colored I can fall back on the original colored one as I shot it in the beginning. -- A picture is worth a thousand words. 1 edit | reply to jmmay Isn't it just as hard to get the B&W tone just right? I guess that the toning not B&W is, to me, just as interesting and maybe more so.
An example of what I mean is this, in B&W and Sepia/brown tones. I actually like the sepia toned one a bit better. And, yes, I did this in my software as I find a lot more interesting ways to do things there. -- JKK

| reply to jaykaykay I don't even know that you need to go as far as a 'toned' look to be interesting. One of the fun parts of wetwork black and white were the choices available, paper and developer wise. You could go from a very cold looking paper (like Velox) to a paper that naturally looked almost like a sepia (Agfa Portriga). You could exaggerate the effect by the choice of developer as well. -- Bush implies I'm a traitor. I'm proud of that. ***ATMFAQ***DIFAQ***Kitchen Sink*** |

| reply to jaykaykay I'm not a huge fan of the reddish-brown sepia tone, but I do enjoy other tones, such as yellows, blues and greens. Incidentally here's a picture I took this week, which doesn't really fall into any of those categories.

I prefer darkroom as opposed to digital. However you can do quite a bit of toning with photoshop. -- Resist the cult of Steve Gibson's Moustache!! |
