Re: It would be a great day...

Well, it totals out pretty expensive after all the taxes and fees:
Local + LD + taxes and fees (w 500 minutes ld, + caller ID and discounted Canada calling) works out to be ~$48/month.

Local plan: Personal Choice = $21.95
LD plan: International Saver II $2.95 + Value Plus 500 $13.00 = $15.95
Total: $37.90
Fees/taxes: $13.82
Bill Total: $51.72
Fees + Taxes = 26.7% of my bill!!

When I had Verizon service it was about $34 per month for unlimited local, caller id, call waiting, and maybe anonymous call reject. This was total after tax. Ridiculous.

I wish our phone service was that cheap. Basic phone service in mid-Michigan with no features and the minimum local call package (required) comes out to about $26.70 a month with fees, taxes, and 911. Add $12.95 plus fees and its just about the same price as Comcast.

you know I'm putting this in as an example...
AT&T just call 300 = $16.00
AT&T Canada Plus = $5.95
= $22.00
Add in a few extra minutes of use, and I'm at $23 pretty easily.

Most of the former SBC discount programs require local+ld

The point I'm trying to make is that AT&T does not want to 'lose' any money by opening up local+ld to VoIP competition.
I expect prices to rise after 1year contracts, and a HUGE push for the ADSL2+/VDSL higher speed/rates to be able to able to attempt to compete with cable for speed (and be able to charge more $$$). The possible benefit will be the IPTV, which I don't expect to really do all that well unless they can sell it relatively cheap.
