| Regarding the 16/1Mbps tier rumor.
Is that a healthy ratio? I mean its 16:1.
That is one of the highest ratios of all time if not the highest. Would this high ratio have any bad effect on ping times or anything? Download speed is not important to me after the 5Mbps mark. I am more concerned with ping times for online gaming servers. |

| reply to sortofageek Well, just to add fuel.....Got Comcast 2 months back. 8/768 set up. Usual speed test results would have a quick burst mid test to 10 - 12 meg and then level off around 8.
Out of nowhere the speed tests are much faster. On Speakeasy, which I know isnt exactly accurate but is what I use each time, the speed test at 8 PM last night was 13.5 meg down, the usual 700+ up. Ran it again, slightly higher that time. 3 or 4 more times and same results.
Then ran a test before work this morning, 17.5 meg down, 700+ up. Tested 3 times, same thing.
Could be a burst that stuck around too long or something is up with a possible upgrade coming soon. Either way, its nice to see higher speed, whether its legit or not! |

| reply to sortofageek I have heard regular speed (Silver Tiered) folks will only get the upload doubled. 6000/768. And Speed Tier to 16000/1000. My neighbor had a talk with a rep over the weekend and it was mentioned 2000 upload on the speed tier. So... wait and see. Time will tell. |

They're going to begin DOCSIS 2.0 deployment soon, actually, and not wait for DOCSIS 3.0 to begin laying down some faster speeds.
I also got word that some of the speed upgrades will only available in markets where competitors offer faster speeds (aka FIOS). If so, this is a major blow to people in markets where Comcast is the only broadband provider, like mine.
I don't know anything other than that at this point. If someone who knows more came on and set the record straight, it would be really valued. -- "Some people never see the light till it shines thru bullet holes." -Bruce Cockburn
