Re: [General] Free 411 calls

Yes, both 1-800-488-METRO and 1-800-FREE-411 will provide you "directory assistance" without any cost (beyond whatever your cost is to call a "toll free number").

And since this is the VoIP forum, lets bring the subject back to VoIP. You can easily tell your SIP adapter to call either of these services via VoIP for free, via any of the services that allow free 800 number calls.

For example, "Free World Dialup" can call these services. In fact, if you have a LinkSys/Sipura adapter, you can just add the following pattern to your "dial plan" to send all calls for "411" to "1-800-FREE-411" for free (even if your normal VoIP account changes for calling 800 numbers):

I know it's been mentioned on here but don't forget that some VoIP providers offer free 411 service as well.

Do you mean 1-800-Free-411?

I like both. Free-411 and Metro

I use both METRO (which is sometimes down) and 411-FREE on my cell. Cell 411 is extremely expensive, so this is a good way to bring costs down. 411-FREE is 1-800-411-6387

While we are at it: If I need directions to a location on the fly I call 1-800-555-TELL and ask for "Driving Directions." Free call and they give you step-by-step driving directions from your starting point to your destination point right on your cell.

If anyone is interested, there is a free "Advertising based" 411 service for any phone. Just minutes on cell or your normal plan for voip or Ma'Bell. 1-800-488-METRO (6387) . They have a website www.infreeda.com . Some great reviews. I personally don't use 411 services, but thought some people might be interested. Basically, after you have given the operator the information of the party you are trying to reach, while they are looking it up, you are a 6-7 second hold where you listen to advertisements. Still, not bad for free. Anyway, thought someone might want the number to put in their cell phone or speed dial at home. Later... Mike....
