Re: [Connectivity] Sacramento, Ca - Any one else "lossy"?

If anyone noticed a significant improvement in their internet connection speed over the weekend, I know why. The fiberoptic cable that was vandalized in South Sacramento on March 9 was finally repaired. Come to find out, almost all of the Sacramento area traffic was being diverted through Folsom causing significant slowdowns, packet loss, and dropped connections (don't ask me how I found this out, but it's true, it came straight from the mouth of someone who works there).

It's great to know that Comcast cares so much about their customers that they lied to me for a whole month, while sending 6 repair techs, fielding around 100 telephone calls from me, and finally having their local network engineer personally call me. If they had just been up front with me about the problem, I would have patiently waited for a fix. Instead, they waste valuable time and resources (mine and theirs) giving me the runaround instead of telling me what's really going on.

But a whole month! Give me a break! Something that takes that long to fix, they should at least be honest with their customers. If I don't see a credit on my bill (not very likely), I will be making a telephone call to someone to see where my credit is for the period of March 9 to April 2.

If you have called them to report a connection problem at any point between March 9 and April 2, I suggest you do the same, even if it did work somewhat okay. They shouldn't be able to get away with this crap.

The $40 credit is a drop in the bucket compared to the time spent dealing with it, but it's just the principle of the matter...

Gaming, Vonage, and uploads all worked erratically between this time period, with heavy packet loss and dropped connections.

I think they will eventually. Fiber would be a hell of a lot better than Frontier (ihad). Or Comcrap (i have). People will drop those two like a ton of bricks. All I ever hear is complaints about Comcast.

Well, hate to keep hearing others having similar problems. I had such bad connection last night at approx. 9:30p that I called Comcast in frustration after doing some tracerts and ping tests. The guy basically verified that I was doing horrible and scheduled a tech for Friday noon time. He said he would make notes to the tech to search outside the residence.

Here's hoping the tech is knowledgeable and will spend some time troubleshooting.

I'll update after hes done.

Feeling the pain...here in the arden area, i had the techs come out here twice within a week, it worked ok for the last week, but now it's shot all to hell again.

i love how they spend all this time/money sending techinicians out and paying for customer service reps to tell us to clear our cache and delete our cookies and replacing modems etc, instead of just upgrading their service. they offer 16 mbs servicein areas that have fiber, so they can do something when they actually want to.

Same here! I live in Rancho Cordova and so far three technicians have come in the last 3 weeks. I even changed my router. BF2 is simply not playable at this point.
I get pings up to 1500ms for www.yahoo.com for example.

Same here, South Watt/almost Rancho Cordova area. I've been on the official Comcast forums complaining about my service. For me it all started on March 9th. Many others on a thread we have going have also come forth to say it started for them on March 9th.

I've had 2 techs come out one said I was fine and replaced the modem with a RCA DCM425C and another tech came by to relocate my cable outlet to another room. He said my signal was excellent from my house to the street box. Go figure.

I have been getting intermittent slow speeds and seriously high pings. I mainly use my HSI for gaming, BF2 and Planetside. I recently took a screenie of my ping hitting 18781 --- now that can't be good. I have several tracerts and ping logs documented showing how bad this service has gotten since March 9th.

Anyways, still trying to figure out what to do.

Good luck to all.

SureWest IS in South Sacramento. Or, more specifically, in Elk Grove, and even more specifically, they are servicing pretty much only Laguna West AND areas south of 99. As for the neighborhoods in between the two freeways, not that I know of. Oh how I wish for the days of 20Mbit/sec...*salivate*

What makes you think Surewest is going to come into South Sacramento? You think they will compete head on with both Comcast and Frontier?

i had dsl and gaming was great, i wasnt getting 6 or 8 Mbps downloads on webpages (usually like 2.5-3), and i got (what i thought) was a great deal on comcast HSI. i was like 2-3x the speed for about half the price, why not?

well i just found out why not. now im signing up for dsl again. only thing that sucks is they make you sign a contract and pay for a modem again (even tho it's free after rebate)

UPloads were much faster on dsl too. you run an upload test and it shows 300-500 up, but if you try to transfer a file via AIM, you can see it start off like that and then pretty soon it's going at like 30-50. It's like they make it seem fast just for the tests.

i also switched from dish to cable at the same time as a part of their deal and one of my cable boxes freezes about 3 times a day, each time requiring me to pull ot the power cord and then wait 10 minutes for everything to update again. comcast is just garbage all around. My bill is $130 a month (WITH the discount) and this is the service I get, it's completely unacceptable.
