Dual tuner DVR locking up?

Howdy everyone,

Anyone having issues with the Dual Tuner DVR box basically locking up? I have my DVR hooked up via component video and optical audio. When it starts messing up, the video is ok, but the sound goes choppy-then totally away. None of hte buttons on the remote at that point appear to work with the exception of the volume button - which changes the volume on the ctual tv (which produces sound from the tv speakers). The channel button won't work etc. The actual buttons ont he front of hte DVR box wont' work either - power, etc. Won't even turn off. You have to unplug the power cable, wait and plug it back in to get it all working again.

I'm guessing the box is hosed........anyone else have that happened before? It happened twice yesterday in a span of 30 minutes...and once or twice before.

This had happen to me several times, I had to change out my DVR box 3 times before the problem was fixed. Now my recent DVR is starting to show the same symptoms.

I don't know about the locking up but the sound problems are a known issue with Motorola, and i know that the hard drive issue (saying its a 100% full when its not) is also a know issue, But you have new boxes so i just think its operator error.......hehehe

I saw something similar to this the other day. It was the first time I'd seen this type of behavior. Although the box has always had an issue with the fast forward or rewind deciding to stick and not be fully controllable. I just attributed the issue I saw the other day to issues related to the recent storms in our area. I figured the process of getting things fixed or keeping things up and running might be the cause of what I saw. I've not come across the problem again. I'd compare it to what you see when you tax the resources of a computer to the point where the memory and processor can't handle everything being thrown at it.

Exactly. I figured at LEAST the power button would turn the thing off though? This was a total system lockup....with the wierd exception of the volume button (if I remember right - on the remote - not the front of the box (if there's a volume control there) - none of hte buttons on the box did anything if I remember correctly.

It didn't do it yesterday - so I guess i'll just wait over the weekend and see how it does.

The DVR saying it's 100% full when it's not starting happening after the last firmware update(for me at least). I've also had recordings fail to record for no reason, also a new issue. Any audio problems I had were cleared up a couple of firmware updates ago. I'm beginning to think that the 30 second skip feature is never coming back. I wish Insight would switch to Scientific Atlanta hardware, I never had such hassles with those boxes.

I want that SA box that allows you to add an eSATA Hard drive for more storage, that would be very nice.

Lets change gears for a second, I wanted to know if anyone else is seeing a problem with the DVR that i am seeing.

The problem is that when i go back to watch stuff i have recorded the show stops about 75% of the way in and freezes and gives the Error Code "NS" and will not let me watch the end of the program. This has happened at my own house as well as at a friends.

My unit has an eSATA connector on the back. But my SATA drive is in use. I know this has been discussed before and if need be I'll start my own thread. But if you hook up an external drive that is either USB 2.0 or Firewire capable. Will this in fact add capacity to the DVR unit. Or would there be some way to move recordings to the external unit. I need to go read the older threads to get my answer I think.

I'm reading this old thread

»Extract shows from DVR?

And doing some web searches. So I may find my own answer. But constructive input always welcome.

DCT6412 Firewire capture and HD-SD to DVD guide

»replayguide.sourceforge.net/dct6412/

It will see the external drive. Just not sure the DVR unit will put it to use. Oh well.
