| I Ate Bacon
I didn't actually go out and buy bacon, and fry it up and eat it, but what happened, I was at a restaurant and they had a whole ton of bacon, and before I knew it, I took some. I haven't eaten bacon in ages, because they said not to. I never really understood 'why' I wasn't supposed to eat bacon, just knew not to eat it. So, since this forum is known for exceptionally intelligent people, I thought I would come here and ask if anyone knows why I'm not supposed to eat bacon, and what could happen if I ate some.

| I read somewhere that bacon "puts a smile on everyone's face". So I guess if you want to not smile then it would be bad for you. -- Trade Entertainment Book Coupons |

| reply to yoyomhz Most things are good in moderation. Eating some bacon every now and then won't do much to you. Eating bacon every day is NOT good for you, just like eating a bucket of lard would not be good for you. Eating bacon at every meal, and eating 10 meals a day will be extra bad for you. I would advise against this course of action. -- "For in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet, we all breathe the same air, we all cherish our children's future, and we are all mortal." - John F. | reply to yoyomhz Hmm..you're question got me mighty curious so I did a little search on bacon. Have to say I do enjoy the occasional bacon and tomato sandwich, tho. Here's what I found:
"Many foods, especially cured meats such as bacon and hot dogs, use nitrates to preserve color and maintain microbial safety. Nitrate is harmless, but it can convert to nitrite, which can form nitrosamines, a powerful cancer-causing chemical, in your body. Whenever possible, look for nitrate-free preserved meats. When you do eat foods containing nitrates, have a glass of orange juice at the same time (for instance, orange juice with your morning bacon). Vitamin C is known to inhibit the conversion to nitrosamines in your stomach." |

| reply to yoyomhz A strip of bacon is basically a couple of tablespoons of lard, plus salt, plus nitrates. I believe I speak for everyone in these forums when I say you should indulge your newfound passion for bacon to the utmost. Use it as a garnish on everything from Alphaghetti to Zucchini. Dice up a few apples, make a fruit salad and garnish liberally with bacon bits.

Eat bacon to your heart's content buddy!
Scientists have successfully inserted a gene from an ocean worm into pigs, creating a new kind of swine that produces high levels of a nutrient-rich oil found primarily in fish.
The results offer a potential new strategy for producing meat high in the beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids and to establish a model for studying the biological effects of the nutrient. . . . . It's now up to federal regulators to decide if the pigs are up to snuff for the consumer market, and whether the world is ready for omega-3 pork.

| reply to yoyomhz Can't verify the source, but remember one old history speaker who said the voyageur canoes were fueled on lard (fat bacon hogs) or salt pork and corn. Half a pound of each per person per day.
The voyageurs led "healthy" outdoor lives with 10 to 12 hours heavy work many days and they lived untill they died. |

| reply to yoyomhz Omega3 bacon? That would be awesome! Especially since we aren't supposed to have very many servings of fish because of mercury levels!
If you don't want to have fatty bacon have chicken or turkey bacon. If you like fried bologna you will lose chicken and turkey bacon! |
