Both Cable and Telco's are "super" saturated right now. Most are on the brink of critical breakdown when it comes to the back-end of their networks. If you tip the scale, even by 20% either way, without doing major upgrades, that one provider will see massive issues. Take Verizon for example, they started the new 14.95 plan and can't keep up. Sprint introduced a new speed tier and pricing structure, and their network is barely treading water. All of these companies have one thing in common, and that is an over-utilized network. You can run all the fiber you want for the last mile, but until more OC-192's are installed at head nodes and redbacks, then I think the market will balance itself out with QOS, as customers flip back and forth to the best quality provider. |
