1 edit | reply to rsd99 Re: [Speed] Slow Speeds in Phoenixville, PA
OK now I'm pissed I got a .74kb down last night. Thats right 14x slower that 14kb modems from 1980. I hope Comcast is trolling in here cause I want you to see this. "I'm leaving!" Verison is in the hood, and I'm gonnajump in with them. As fast as I can make the switch, I will. It was "OK" for the last 2 or 3 days, Now it back to the same night time crap. And now its bad in the morning too. Your techs are morons, I'm sick of the freakin script they start to recite, every time we call to find out whats up. Just tell me your network is having "issues". They must be crazy to let this go on,like this. They are gonna loose a bunch of people I would think......
15 mins after I posted this...it was back to 6mp down 370 kb up. What a rollercoaster |

1 edit | reply to Johkal im in the 19111 zip area of PA. ever since yesterday i've been experiencing really bad lag/spikes in my connection. i range from 2 mbit to as low as 56k or slower speeds... im not sure wth is goin on. i have a RCA modem dmc425 model. it worked great for about half a year and now all of a sudden for the past 2 days i've been having connection problems where my max speed would be 2mbit and it would spike up and down for no reason.
look at my wonderful speeds that i've been gettin for a couple hrs now... »/speedtests/11···43861281
it seems as the days go on. my avg speed gets worse... |

| reply to rsd99 said by rsd99 :when it is working correctly, how does the 5120 perform? I went from the 4100 to the 5120. I was having trouble getting the new speeds when they first started but from what I read here the problem with CC and the 4100 has been fixed.
When I went to the 5120 the speed went up but so did the sensitivity to SNR and low signal levels. Once Comcast fixed the lines, external to the house and brought the signals up to where they should be it has been fine. The word on here is that the 5100 is less sensitive to signal issues but I couldn't find one. I don't know if they exist in the local stores they all seem to have the 5120.
I'm getting 7k d/l at the moment, 387 up. Last night it went to 3k but that seems to have been a network issue. I have no complaints about the 5120.

See my pings in JeepMatt's post. It looked like it didn't settle down until the traffic decreased. -- Hard work never killed anybody but why should I take the chance |

| reply to rsd99 I am in Collegeville, PA and I started noticing 2 mbps speeds for the past week or so. Uploads are fine at about 350 kbps. The tech came out last night and hooked in his crappy RCA and lo and behold it went upto 9-10 mbps!! I plugged in my SB4100 and it's back to 2 mbps down. He said I should get a new modem. I did the testing couple of times with both his modem and my modem and the speed results were consistent. I guess I'll have to eat the price now since there's no DSL or FIOS around where I live(off of Old State Rd). Anyone else have any other suggestions? |

| reply to rsd99 i was having problems with my router not being able to handle the 8 megs, but then i replaced it and was getting 8 megs easily. so i know it;s not my router.
i wish i could get FIOS. i live in a condominium, and there is one huge NID on the side of the building that feeds everyone so i don't know how they are going to get fios into my house. i am going to give verizon a call today and see what i can do.
thanks for your input.

1 edit | reply to rsd99 Media, Pa. Here. Just south of you. My connection sucks too. Fast... then slow as hell. Can you say? Fios. I know I can.And will.
This is crazy! I'm at like 14k speeds. This web site is one of a few that will come up. Guy last night told us the "its your router" story, Last time it was the "its your spitter" story. After months of pretty good service, its gone to crap. We will be jumping to fiber, just to see how it goes. Right now anything would be better. I'm in pain, its so slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| for the past few weeks i have been experiencing slow speeds on my Comcast HSI. i would run a speakeasy speedtest and i would be getting the 8 megs that i am paying for, but now for the past few weeks i have barely been getting 4 megs, nowhere even near the 6 megs that even the regular users are supposed to get.
i called comcast and they said that the upstream levels on my cable modem were low. they scheduled a tech to come out on satuday. well the tech showed up, and did a signal test with his meter and it tested out ok. next we plugged my notebook directly into my cable modem (a motorola surfboard 4100) and got the same results so that told me it was not a problem on my internal network. then we tried a new cable modem he had with him (an rca modem) and we barely got 2.5 megs out of it. he next called someother guy on his nextel, and he said that there has been a problem in the phoenixville area.
the tech then told me that they will be upgrading the area to a 16 qam. now i have no clue what that means. it was supposed to happen this week, but the guy on the other end of the nextel was not sure when it would happen.
does anyone else live in the phoenixville, PA area? are you experiencing this problem?
let me know.
thanks in advance -rob |
