Re: will Montgomery county MD ever get fibered?

Actually, I think cable companies will be more likely to terminate or cap heavy users in competitive areas. Those who get terminated or capped will be less likely to raise a stink - they'll simply move on, as you plan to do. Then cable companies can continue to charge premium prices for "lite" service.

Since cable companies seem much more interested in profit-per-customer than they are in the count of customers, this could work out in their favor.

Think a muni would ever have a policy to impose limits without disclosing the terms?

Good News:
The list has been updated. 44 is better than 5.

Bad News:
My spouse talked to a Verizon tech yesterday and asked when we'd be getting FiOS. Apparently, the tech muttered something about "trouble from the City of Rockville", and said it'd be at least a year for those of us served by Montrose Road.

Thanks for nuthin' COR!

This seems to indicate some work in Gaithersburg and a ton of work in PG County.

Good current info ...

Interesting document prepared by Montgomery County lawyers in answer to an FCC inquiry. It lists meetings between Verizon and MC. What the county is telling citizens does not match this document.

That document says there was supposed to be a meeting on March 29th. Anyone know what happened at that meeting? Was it even actually held, or was it just scheduled?

The listings for howard and anne arundel counties have over 200 locations, PG county has well over 100 locations. I guess they might finish montgomery county when everything else in MD is done.

Sigh.
My plan is working.

This is for trying to erase Glen Burnie off the deployment maps.

I'm not on the list either.

No, I haven't had time to contact ARRL yet. Spring Break plans and preparations took priority.

Here's an interesting take on the city of Rockville's stance on FIOS:

Only 5 minutes for that agenda item? What's the point?

Hey Don, didn't realize you were also a member here. I posted the same link as a comment to one of your blog entries.

5 minutes--not even long enough to read.

I wonder if Larry Giammo can spell

'R-U-B-B-E-R S-T-A-M-P'

?

Yes, I saw your comment. Thanks. I'm thinking of going downtown to see these officials in action. Are these really rubberstamp affairs or can they turn into productive discussions?

Goverment run Broadband??
No thank you. are you kidding. when is the last time a government agency was run efficiently? We on long Island took over the private Elec co. _LILCO_ rates have gone up ever since then by way of fuel surcharges.
Again name 1 (one)! government agency that run efficiently and, because is this case there are company's running at a profit doing the same thing, an agency that runs at a profit

I don't know how they go. I have met Giammo once. Seemed down-to-Earth but not long enough to see what kind of person he is.

I looked around and I couldn't figure out exactly where the meetings are held.

I only made the rubber stamp comment because of the comment you made about the discussion only being 5 minutes long...just long enough to have a vote.

PoloDude,

Pretty sure the SEC and the FCC both operate on a net gain.

I know for sure the Federal Reserve operates at a profit, and even charges fees for services based on the idea that they are trying to make a profit (and they do) so as to interfere the minimum with private markets.

I can't get into details but most of the Fed's money isn't technically "theirs."

March 2005.

As I may have mentioned before, the NJ DMV is astoundingly efficient. I needed to renew my license and from the point I got out of my car to the point I got in my car on a Saturday, was 16 minutes. This includes getting my picture taken, my renewal application processed, and getting the license made. Oh, and the place was packed to the brim with people. I wasn't anywhere near the first on line either.

Uh, what does that prove? Let's see, we pass a law that anybody that wants to trade securities has to be registered with the SEC and that the SEC can charge fees on any security transaction. Not too hard to make a "profit" under those circumstances.

right the SEC and the FCC are both regulatory agencies neither of which can the private sector get involved with. The Federal reserve is the same thing but it is technically a corporation.(hard not to make a profit when you print the money
The DMV in NY has gotten a lot better also but again is a government only biz.
Again i would rather put up with fighting my local broadband,tv,phone supplier then the alternative.
-Hi i'm here from the DOT/parks/assessors/permit/erosion control office and you are having a problem with your router?
