| If the lower tier from Comcast goes to 6/768Kbps Comcast will be getting less money from me as I will be downgrading.
I am all about the upload and $10 of savings a month for 232Kbps more is worth it. After 5Mbps on the download side I really don't see a need for anything faster considering very few websites will actually even give me 1MB/s right now the only thing that has me on their Gold(faster) tier is the upload.
I was really hoping those 16/1Mbps rumors from months ago were untrue and the upload would be 2Mbps. |

| I too, would downgrade.
Comcast promises me 6 megs down, all I can get is a max of 3.
I have decent numbers as far as signal to noise and tx power, and my modem is configed for 6 meg, I just never see it.
What makes them think I'm falling for their "speed" upgrade... |

| It's less dependant on age, rather what firmware it is using and upgradable to. If the modem is limited to a DOCSIS 1.0 firmware, download speeds can/will be low. If the modem is capable to receive a DOCSIS 1.1 firmware, it will normally function efficiently. -- Write me up for 125.......I Can't Drive 55 »redrocker.com/ »cabowabo.com/ |

| reply to Bradmph I'm using a linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem.
It's DOCSIS 2.0 compatible.
I'm using an ethernet connection, not the USB, and I've conducted several speed tests with the cable modem hooked up at the grounding block, and a direct connection w/software firewall.
Still about 3Meg max down.... |

How about posting a tweak test. |

If the problem was on my end, and correctable, it would make me a very happy camper indeed. |
