Fido had been testing this service for months before Rogers bought them; so that's probably where Rogers got the technology from. Fido's website said the maximum speed was 2Mbps, Rogers website only says it's 25x faster than dial-up, and faster than hi-speed lite (1Mbps). Since Fido was testing it before Rogers bought them, I assume it operates over the cell phone network.
Since Bell recently started offering Ev-DO on their cell phones (2.4Mbps), that should encourage Rogers to step up their UMTS development, which should mean 5-6Mbps, with nothing more than a cell phone or a pc card. Last I heard Rogers was going to start trials for UMTS this fall. |

| Well, if they can get faster speeds, I'd be interested Wireless technology does require good security though unless you don't mind people leaching off you're connection! -- Life is a game of blackjack. You keep playing until you bust. |

And that's why Rogers is not at all happy to hear Toronto Hydro's plan to have WiFi coverage for the whole of downtown Toronto area by year's end. And it will be free for the first 6 months! |
