Re: "Background downloader"

like I said, if that kills your router or modem you need a new one
That's a not a very realistic solution because WOW itself doesn't kill the router, it's the P2P download software that does. If someone never uses P2P and only plays WoW they wouldn't need a new router. In any case a large number of connections opened and closed over a short period of time can kill any router/modem unless it is designed to handle large amounts of connections traffic. Its not just the number of open connections, but how many connections per second that are opened and closed. If the P2P app is opening and closing 50 connections per second (which can happen if thousands of people are downloading/uploading at once) it will quickly overflow the NAT table in most home routers. So unless you meant go out and buy a $5000 Cisco router, a new router might may not help.

The problem with the background downloader is that the p2p app may now run at any time while WoW is running whether it is patch day or not.

Does the Mac version have this same issue?
The Mac version also includes the P2P client so I think it would. OS X doesn't have the XP enforced speed limit which might make the problem worse if your router/modem can't handle the traffic.
