[Split] High Pings in Philadelphia, PA

Split from this topic ---> »[Split] High Pings in Harrisburg, PA

theres a couple different threads on the front page for PA area problems, philly and harrisburg. ive been having really high ping times since thursday and have spoken to comcast 4 times and had a tech sent out and they seem to be ignoring the fact that it is on their network (at&t is comcast owned according to one tech) and want to send someone to me. ive tried cloning my mac address a couple times to get a new IP and i'm still seeing higher than normal ping times and erratic speed tests with bursts over 12000kbps though my line speed is only 8000/768. right now, im getting almost normal ping times but there's still 3 hops that time out which was happening all day friday into the night followed by pings in the high 300's all weekend long.

traceroute to www.comcast.net (63.240.76.72), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets

it's a specific problem happening to a select few and it seems like noone at comcast is willing to do anything about it. that's fine, ill just take my specific business to speakeasy as ive already gone this route with verizon. what is it about philly and PA in general? most dysfunctional city/state ive ever lived in.

Are you in Harrisburg?

Response was deleted from the other topic because it didn't follow the child topic. This was the reply:

no philadelphia

since obtaining a new ip about 3-4 hours ago i've noticed pretty consistant pings and traceroutes. hopefully that will remain through the night. it is after 5pm now though...

HARMANE See Profile, I'm not seeing any problems with that trace you posted. I wish I had tiny pings like that to www.comcast.net.

I'm scratching my head, wondering what I am missing.

Just an aside to all, topics would split more cleanly if everyone would use post reply to reply directly to a post, rather than topic reply.

i didn't make this thread...

i was just summarizing for whoever made it what i've been going thru (and others) since thursday. that trace is from the second or 3rd time i cloned a mac address on my network to get an IP that would bypass the bad at&t routers, as i explained in the beginning of my post before the pasted traceroute.

Re: [Split] High Pings in Harrisburg, PA

i'm scratching my head as to why this topic was split to make it look like i created/needed my own thread for the same problem threads have been made for since thursday. splitting topics to create new ones for each poster with the SAME problem seems to create...problems, and confusion.

edit: philly vs. harrisburg? whatever, same network, same routers causing same exact problem. i still dont see the point.

As the moderator of the forum, I split it. Harrisburg is in central PA, Philadelphia is east, southeast if I recall correctly. Perhaps the same routers, perhaps not. Perhaps the same problems, perhaps not. I don't see a high ping problem in the trace you posted in a topic where a member in central PA was claiming high pings.

In general, we seem to do a better job isolating and troubleshooting in this forum if we start individually and only band together once we are certain several are dealing with the same cause.

If you don't wish an individual topic, perhaps you could contribute in the Philadelphia topic here: »[Connectivity] Philly Router is Bombing tonight..

Well, for one thing, there is no garauntee on latency. Internet is a 'best-effort' service. Unfortunatley you just have to wait for it to get fixed. Don't expect it to be quick or done just cause you called in.

Only thing I could say is if it bothers you,or you are fed up try a different ISP. If it is your only choice for broadband, either tough it out or cancel and try back again in a few months.
