Your System - April 2006

Post your system specs if you've built/bought a new system during the month of April.

If you've changed your system, put "ADDED" next to the new component(s).

If you haven't changed anything - don't post!

AMD 64 X2 4800+
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
4 GB Corsair DDR PC3200 Platinum
XFX GeForce 6800 XTreme 256 MB RAM
2x WD 36 GB 10K RPM Raptor SATA HDD
1 WD 250 GB IDE 7200 RPM HDD
1 Floppy Drive
Sony DRU-710 DL CD/DVD
OCZ 520W ModStream PSU
All wrapped up in a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case

Just finished last night. Power-on checks went without any smoke escaping. BIOS reports CPU running around 35-36°C at idle with the AMD stock HSF (room temp around 20°C). It's quiet - the large 120mm fans (2 in case, one in PSU) are helping in that area.

All of the drives are from an older system (my Opteron 150 setup that fried itself up one day). New case, mobo, CPU, RAM, PSU and video card.

The goal is to get it up and running with Windows Vista 64 Bit version. Cross your fingers for me.

This isn't an update on my main system but one of my many spares .

Asus CUV4X motherboard
Intel Pentium III 600EB Pentium III 933 MHz *ADDED*, using the 600's HSF
160 MB PC100/133 @ 133 MHz, CAS2
13 GB IBM Deskstar+7.5 GB WD Spartan
16 MB nVidia Vanta AGP
Windows XP Pro
Onboard AC97 audio
50x Afreey CD-ROM
Some generic 300w PSU

Planned future upgrades are:
2x256 MB PC133, CAS2
GeForce 4 Ti 4200, or another relatively fast and cheap card
All-copper HSF with a big fan
A different optical drive
330w Antec TruePower (once I get it back from my friend)

PFU's for my main machine:
Opteron 165/170
Copper BGA heatsinks for the back of my 7800 GTX. The aluminum heatspreader thingy that came with my NV Silencer 5 sucks and keeps falling off. Last thing I want is that card getting shorted out or torched memory.

That's all I can think of for now .

Replaced the old slapped together fileserver:

Case: Ancient AT tower case
PSU: PCP&C Turbo-Cool 450 AT
CPU: PII 450
Mem: Corsair 128meg ECC
MB: Tyan Tsunami AT
HD: Seagate 9gig Medalist
IBM 25 gig Deskstar
CD: not sure, it's old
RAID: Promise S-150 SX4-M
with:
2 X Hitachi 500gig SATA
2 X Seagate 500gig SATA

The replacement:

Case: CoolerMaster RC-810
PSU: PCP&C Turbo-Cool 510 ASL
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Mem: 1G Corsair DDR400/PC3200
MB: SuperMicro H8SSL-i (I should have gotten the -R10...)
HD: WD 36G Raptor (eventual 2 X and conversion to RAID 1)
CD/DVD: NEC ND-3550A
Misc: Mitsumi FA404M Floppy/USB Card reader,
2 X AMS DK-0357SSB drive racks

Transfered: 1.36TB Promise RAID 5 array, keyboard, monitor and mouse.

Oldies Added: 2 X Hitachi 400gig SATA

Yet to do:
3ware 9550SX-16ML, or a Promise EX16300 to replace the RAID card
Another AMS drive rack
A Boltek lightning detector (my weather station also runs on this machine).

Took about 3 days to get this up and running. Windows didn't care to boot after being ghosted, and the Promise RAID card didn't want to play nice with the new MB.
