| Comcast to start using Spamhaus blacklisting
In the "It's about damn time" department . . . Jason1, a moderator in the Comcast email forum, has indicated that:
quote: . . . Comcast will soon be working to implement the Spamhaus service to enhance the blacklisting efforts. No dates for when this will be fully implemented but it is in the works. »forums.comcast.net/thread.jspa?t···tstart=0
Someone has finally gotten a clue that their implementation of the BrightMail anti-spam solution is NOT working. Note my emphasis on "their implementation", as I believe that the problem lies with Comcast, not with BrightMail. -- Ö¿Ö The Rules of Spam | Maryland's Newest Anti-Spam Law Where are we going? | reply to newview I believe that this is actually a bigger deal than at first glance.
I've NEVER seen Comcast use anything but "big" name companies like Microsoft, McAfee, BrightMail (Symantec), etc. The fact that they FINALLY recognize that Spamhaus is THE final word for a blacklisting solution speaks volumes. Let's hope their cluefullness continues and will extend to implementing SpamAssassin for individual spam filtering. -- Ö¿Ö The Rules of Spam | Maryland's Newest Anti-Spam Law Where are we going? 1 edit | reply to newview Excellent news newview !
Yeah, hopefully the Spamhaus switchover will make some kind of dent in the relatively big spam-flood that makes it past the comcast mailservers.
I'm curious why they don't just go with SpamAssasin, which is like industry standard for spam filtering, plus, open source.
***edit*** Darn, I waited to long to reply (got distracted and opened up 20 other tabs) and Newview beat me to the SpamAssasin remark. |

1 edit | reply to newview SpamAssassin takes a lot of work to keep up. Its better to block the spam at the source. DSPAM is the way to go if you go opensource. Its pretty badass. My email stats since the beginning of the year.

| Hopefully this will do somethin to all the spam currently. I was ok until about 6 months ago when spam just all the sudden took off like a jet and started coming in. I have always been very careful about my comcast addresses. I have 2 I use myself one each on 2 diff comcast accounts. xxxxxxx@comcast.net x.xxxxxx@comcast.net
Both started to receive spam at the same time at about the same rate. Never gave out these addresses. Not sure how they all the sudden started getting bombarded with spam. Either way, being that I get both on my phone for convenience (comcast allowing my phone to connect to the servers is nice), its a hassle to sort through all the spam. |

| reply to newview I guess I'll have to tell my customers who use Comcast that they might have trouble receiving my e-mails. SBC/Yahoo hosts my domains, from which I send e-mail. Spamhaus, instead of targetting individual problem IPs, blankets entire ranges, which results in my customers and friends not receiving my e-mails. This happens at least once a month. It's usually resolved within two days or so, but it is a pain in the a$$. Spamhaus is NOT my friend! -- Microwave and RF Components at www.ohiomicrowave.com |

Hopefully, they will take a more pro-active approach to to stopping spam from their own servers. |

This could be said with many providers. |

Just use the dynamic rbls or block anyone with a comcast.net address that sends mail to you. Only allow the comcast smtp servers. |

| Whoops my bad. That should be: select an organization that is hard on spam.
Yahoo has been hosting and allowing phishing lately and not doing anything about it. I've emailed them atleast 20 times about a site that is hosting a phishing web page and yep weeks later it is still up. |
