Re: [Speed] Sacramento slow speed and modem change (SB4100)

What do I think?

I think it's crap! Comcast should either a: say they no longer support the sb4100 or fix the issue. Clearly the SB4100 is 1.1 docsis and a great modem able to do 8mb and more as I and many others will attest to, Comcast just messed something up. It's not a problem with the modem!

It's only been in the last 2 or 3 weeks that this started, seems it's clearly a problem with the firmware since it only started when my power went off. Someone else in the area with a sb4100 was still getting 6mb, they said no way it was the firmware and said my modem was bad, so I asked them to reboot their modem and they dropped right back to docsis 1.0 and now only getting 4mb & not happy, Hey I told them it would happen. But it proves something changed in the last month on Comcast's side.

So personally I wouldn't just go out and spend $70 on new modem to replace a perfectly good modem that fully supports docsis 1.1 and supported by Comcast because they messed up the support on their end! I will just keep calling and complaining that they need to fix the issue. I wonder how much money they spend on tech visits around the country when I'm sure someone knows the real problem.

So I assume many users will have the same problems as soon as they reboot or lose power. People should call and tell them they have the 4100 and something happened in the last few weeks to many users across the country that fouled up support for their modem.

I agree that they should either support the SB4100 correctly, or not suppport it at all. Luckily, I was able to find a used SB5120 for $40, and since I've had the SB4100 for 4-5 years, I figured it wouldn't hurt to upgrade. I'd rather have my higher speeds, than wait for Comcast to fix the problem.
