In fairness, when I initially used DSLExtreme's live tech support, the first, second and third response was I must have spyware and to install/run a detection/removal program. Only when I rather vehemently insisted it was not a spyware problem did the online tech apparently check and discovered it was indeed a change in the DNS server protocol. Naturally, he and later the phone-based tech I later talked to told me simply to "opt-out" and keep the cookie to avoid the problem. Obviously that advice was also. wrong. Although I agree reformatting/reinstalling OS is somewhat extreme, it is an understandable reaction if someone is not overly tech savvy or believes they may have spyware on their syste. |
