Technology and I absolutely do not get along! I keep telling myself that I'm in the wrong field

A while ago within a week of each other I had two boards fail and neither will POST One definitely has a bad capacitor (it pushed out the top and leaked) and the other has been running with questionable caps too. Both are Asus boards, but my CUSL2-C is still crunching strong!

One of these was my HTPC and I recently figured some upgrading was in order so the new army consists of:

P3 2 x 1.4G
P3 1G
P4 3.06G/533
Q6600 2.4/1066

I've replaced by X6800 with the Quad above and the X is going in my new HTPC being assembled and burned in over the next week or so.

I added some crunchers recently, some of which include a Quad Core Xeon 3.0GHz, several Intel Core2Duo dual core machines ranging from 1.8-2.4GHz, and a few Dual core AMD machines ranging from 2.0ghz to 2.6ghz.

My crunch farm has changed so much over the past few months, I think an update is in order.

• 1 P4 1.80 GHz
• 1 P4 2.00 Ghz
• 2 P4 2.53 GHz
• 2 P4 2.66 GHz
• 1 Core²Duo E6320 1.86 GHz

I'd still be waiting or drooling for a dual core if it wasn't for a sweet mega-dollars off Dell coupon found on my My Yahoo homepage two weeks ago.

A 3.2 GHz P4 with Hyperthreading and a 2.8 GHz P4 without.

Getting the itch to start building a multi-core or multi-processor system and switching to Vista, preferably something with PCI Express. Also need to update my TV card / software to something that will be Vista / digital / HD ready. Any suggestions for a cost-efficient, but smokin' system would be most welcome.

2 AMD Semprons, 1 Pentium 4, and a dual-CPU Xeon with Hyperthreading.

Edit: Funny thing, I realized after posting this that I didn't have Hyperthreading on the whole time! Now that I do, I've noticed something strange, but I'll save that for another thread.

More crunching power!

Had been running an Opteron 146.

One benefit of having a Socket 939 motherboard was that I could interchange a dual core Opteron 175 which I did today.

A relatively cheap way to get a lot more processing power.

My fourth cruncher, a Craigslist special, is a P4 2.66 GHz. It will be online early next week.

Plans for a brand new dual core are on hold. My head is spinning from reading too many Intel & AMD reviews on dual cores...
