Re: [Wireless] Need a replacement for WRT54G v5

I just received a new WRT54GL from Newegg and flashed it with Hyper WRT Thibor; it is running flawlessly for about a week now. The L versions are hard to find in local stores but Newegg ships them out in just a couple of days.

Before you do that though make sure the GS isn't a version 5...that's a non 3rd party upgradeable router as well, just like the G v5

Under 30 days they have a no questions asked refund. Take the money and by the other model. Later... Mike...

They don't have any GL models. They do have a GS though. Other thought will they refund or just exchange?

Thanks

Go with one of the newer GL models. They allow all the 3rd party firmware upgrades. After 30 days, my advice changes. In the first 30 days of a Circuit City no questions asked return policy, this is a no brainer. Take it back. Later... Mike...

I am now able to get into it by the Admin page thanks to a Hard Reset. I have 2 more weeks before my 30 days is up so should I return it for a different one? Will I be able to find a v4 at Circuit City or should I get a different model?

My opinion, get one of the models that have the linux firmware base so you can upgrade the firmware with all the 3rd party that is available. ..
DD-WRT recently came out with a firmware version for the V5.
Yep, and you need the JTAG cable and have to crack it open to flash it. Too much trouble, IMO.

You've attempted the "hard reset" button?

If it's less than 30 days from purchase at circuit city, I would definately take it back to circuit city. My opinion, get one of the models that have the linux firmware base so you can upgrade the firmware with all the 3rd party that is available. There is plenty of posts on which ones can take the firmware. Definatly use the 30 day money back on this. Later... Mike...

I just got done with a chat session with a Linksys tech. A lot of help that was. When I go the »:/ /192.168.1.1 and enter my password I get a blank screen. I have tried to flash it using tftp.exe and it returned an error "Disk full or allocation exceeded". This has been working for 2 weeks and now this. Any suggestions on a way to fix this or should I go into Circuit City for a replacement?

Thanks!
