| SSH fails - no connection
I am installing some servers that require SSH login from a remote site. The remotes fail to reach my servers. They fail at a 66 dot something IP (will have them verify the full addy). My router is DMZ'd to point to one of the servers. My router incoming log does not show any port 22 attemps. I also did a direct connect from modem, still fails. This is a business service w/multi IP's.
I switched to a direct connect to my backup Verizon line, connected with no issues....
Anyone have any ideas? Certainly seems to be a dsl line issue of some sort. |

It sounds like a router issue, actually. How certain are you that the port forwarding/DMZ is setup properly?
Try plugging the box directly into the DSL modem and setting it up with the static IPs or set it up for DHCP and then see if you can get to it.
Also verify the machine running sshd isn't firewalling port 22.

| So it's not the router? Try changing the DSLX firewall tool to something else, wait 15 minutes, then set it back to "off" and see if that helps.

Victorville, CA | Now, thats an idea. I will do that. Unfortunately, I won't be able to test this until Friday, as I have the remotes connected & woking on my Verizon line, and I don't want to stop their work to re-configure & test the connection. |

Hi Dave,
I checked in our system and see that you currently have the firewall set to medium. That setting blocks the common Microsoft ports. You may want to try to disable that to see if it makes a difference. You can do that through the My Account section of our website.

That may have been when I reset the firewall tool to try the previous suggestion. The suggestion was to enable it, wait, then disable it. What is not quite right, is I set it "Full", not medium. I then pinged it with no respones (as expected). I then reset it to "No Firewall". Waiting 1/2 hr between each. I was then able to ping. Never had it set to "Medium" Please check for my firewall status now, as I just confirmed that I am showing as "No Firewall".
BTW, this is on a static account with multiple IP's, I "assume" that the firewall settings are global to all IP's? |

I checked the firewall status on your account and confirmed that it is turned off. I also checked in our router to confirm that everything was set properly there. Although everything was set properly while I was in there I went ahead and reset your account in our router.

I have the static IP, "medium" common Mirosoft firewall ENABLED and I can ssh to my boxes here just fine.
