id = name [CS] This attribute assigns a name to an element. This name must be unique in a document.
class = cdata-list [CS] This attribute assigns a class name or set of class names to an element. Any number of elements may be assigned the same class name or names. Multiple class names must be separated by white space characters.
The id attribute assigns a unique identifier to an element (which may be verified by an SGML parser). For example, the following paragraphs are distinguished by their id values: This is a uniquely named paragraph. This is also a uniquely named paragraph.
The id attribute has several roles in HTML:
As a style sheet selector. As a target anchor for hypertext links. As a means to reference a particular element from a script. As the name of a declared OBJECT element. For general purpose processing by user agents (e.g. for identifying fields when extracting data from HTML pages into a database, translating HTML documents into other formats, etc.). -- "Be simple, be earnest and spread that simplicity throughout everything you do." |

 | I don't think this class id, which is merely a HTML attribute, is the same thing as what verclsid.exe does. |

FredraUndesirable Alien join:2000-04-08 Nepean, ON | I also give them my thanks. I have a suggestion... Is there any way that the people here, who are having problems with this specific update, can collectively try to find a commonality of cause and effect? Based on Crystal Sky's link, it seems a lot of ppl are having problems and one question was "Do you have HP Scanner" installed. Now, I am not suggesting that the HP Scanner software is the cause, but it maybe a starting point. I installed this on two PC's and a laptop. Only one PC has given me grief, the other two are working fine. Each of the two working PC's have different software (AV and Firewall...to mention a few), yet they have no problems. Although I have emailed Microsoft (and received a response that they are investigating), I thought I would try to find what is common on the problematic PC's. It is only a suggestion. | reply to Sparrow Can you help me solve my issue? I have been using Photo Story for Windows, and suddenly it kept freezing and I couldn't import my pictures. I took a look at the task manager and saw verclsid.exe. I knew I had not seen it there before so I ended it. Voila! Photo Story was allowed to browse for pictures again. |

 | reply to hpguru This is a legit file, however, it seems that there is will be a better solution coming... i renamed the file verclsid.exe to verclsid.old and everything is fine. I will wait until MS figures this mess out - I had over 20 running on my machine at one time... |
