| Last 4 months - looking better
Over about the last 4 months I have seen a drop in the number of computers scanning me and a drop in the number of scans. Number of scans is pretty well at the lowest it has been in two years, so it would appear that things are looking up in terms of how the internet is doing.
The ScannerRate shows the number of unique IP addresses I see blocked per hour at my firewall.

Anyone else seeing a general improvement in the scan rate on the internet, or is my ISP just doing a really good job of cleaning up their network?

Have not really been checking at home. |

EDIT: typo |

| reply to Link Logger My thinking is could be a combination of things. More ISPs are blocking more ports. More people are getting smarter in using anti-malware apps. Less new computers being sold(just a guess). I think one big factor might be that some of the better AV apps are now much better at detecting/preventing Trojan like activity instead of just virus types. This may be helping in cutting down on infected machines. |

| reply to Link Logger My ISP don't filter anything which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your opinion. Tonight I'll look at the total number of unique IP addresses scanning per month as that should give me an idea as to the overall infection rates (I'll post that here as well).
This change could be brought about by a change in the scanning patterning and or timing within infected systems, but certainly the overall effect is fewer useless hits against my firewall, which is good no matter how you slice it.
