| reply to fonzbear2000 It's bloated, used for too much advertizing, takes too much trouble to disable the crap turned on by default, etc..etc..
I can't believe anyone would ever use it.
I feel the same way about Windows Media Player.
If I want to just play some audio files I use XMPlay. |

| reply to fonzbear2000 Because, years ago, it would try to do things that people didn't like.
I use it! I actually like RealPlayer! Yeah, I said it!
As for trying to take over... it ASKS what files you want associated with Real. Alot like QT does(and other player softwares).
MPC even asks what files to associate with MPC(Onoes!). Mine behaves, can't say why other people have a hard time with it. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

| reply to fonzbear2000 Realevilplayer has done a lot of questionable things in the past! How it earned it's hated reputation. Going online without permission, installing other junk, doing things it shouldn't, just does a whole bunch of things behind the scenes that get annoying, etc. Was listed as Spyware for a while, don't know if it still is, I doubt it, nowadays you can pay to be unlisted!

| reply to Schrade I hate Windows Media Player. I absolutely agree that it's too bloated. Every version that comes out has more and more features that i don't want.
One thing i absolutely hate about WMP is the stupid news and entertainment section that is stuffed into there. I don't care about the music, movies, and entertainment news when i load my media player - i just want to play videos!
BSPlayer is my video player of choice. -- nfx |

| reply to dadkins Dadkins-- This question is about a friend of mine (really!) who uses Real. He's not technically inclined. Says it always played his CD's just fine until recently; now when he brings it up, the song is listed on the bar at top, but when he hits "play", it just shows him ads. I personally don't know anything about RealPlayer, other than the bad rumors that go around. Any thoughts? Thanks. -- Insanity - Continuing to do it the same way, yet expecting a different result. |

| reply to fonzbear2000 Because Realplayer is made by Real -- a company that is garbage, with garbage ideas, and that has shown a disturbing trend to make garbage products over its well-known history.
The "rumors" you've probably been hearing are merely a factual account of Real's past. If Real did today what they used to do, they would currently be considered a first-party spyware and adware vendor. They've employed many, many dirty tricks. |

| reply to fonzbear2000 I used RealPlayer back in the '90s and (version 8 and earlier) and even bought the "plus" version. When they started putting banner ads in my paid-for version, I dumped it and didn't use anything Real for years. I have to admit, though, that I really like the Rhapsody player and it's one of my favorites now. -- "I could be wrong, now... But I don't think so!" - Adrian Monk |

| reply to AB No idea about the ads... mine is set to play(and rip to 320kbps MP3) as soon as the CD is inserted, so by the time song #1 is finished(usually)... I have the CD ripped!

You asked about the player itself and people have voiced that it is utter crap.
said by dadkins :MPC even asks what files to associate with MPC(Onoes!). Mine behaves, can't say why other people have a hard time with it. Totally and utterly false. Media Player Classic doesn't have an install. It's just an .exe you run. When it starts up it doesn't bug you for associations or EULAs or anything. You have to go into its options area to associate it with files or choose 'Open With...' via Windows' menus and select it. |
