said by Mele20 :The way I look at it Real has tried to reform and I give them credit for that effort. My hatred is for WMP and Microsoft who arrogantly doesn't even give you the OPTION to stop WMP from calling home after 6.4. Plus, you can easily remove Real Player from your computer. Just try and remove WMP 10 from XP which results in 9 being default and it calls home too. You can get it where version 9 files are on the computer but it isn't installed and thus 6.4 is invoked but you can't remove the version 9 files (well you can but they come back). THAT is what deserves hatred not Real Player. People that have been around remember what Real did & Does! Real is just as evil and crappy as always! Windows media player has always been a great player. If you learn how it works, you'd see you can disable anything you want! Remove whatever. Just need to take the time to read. WMP has always been the best and never did the things Realnetworks did to get them the rep that many have forgotten. They haven't fired the people responsible or stopped there policy, just gotten better at it. There just happy they are still in business! Junk stock! Anyway, WMP 11 works great! And I have Real Alternative. So I don't need the Communist crap! I don't forgive & forget as quick as some I guess. »www.free-codecs.com/download/Rea···tive.htm |

| reply to fonzbear2000 I HATE real player and anything associated with it. I wish it was wiped off the face of the earth.
If I just have to play a real file I use Media Player Classic with real & quicktime alternative. The only other player I ever use is VLC. I only install the codecs I need, I never install codec packs. |

And I really don't care about their so called privacy policy. They had their chance and they f*cked it up with their surreptitious bullshit. It's WMP player that gives you NO choice and phones home whether you want it to or not. It is also WMP that forces DRM for most everything. I have WMP player above 6.4 non-functional on my computer. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy." | reply to fonzbear2000 said by fonzbear2000 :quite a few times, ive seen people say that the real player sucks-i listened to an mp3 through both real and winamp and they sounded exactly the same-i watched a video on both and they looked and sounded exactly the same-so, why are people against real player? Where to start. That's like asking why AOHell sucks and isn't as popular as say, Firefox. My personal hate for RealPlayer is as follows:
1) Phones home. 2) Installs a buncha shit I don't want/need on my HD. 3) Uses DRM whether you enable it or not.
Has nothing to do with quality or lack thereof. Personally, I just refuse to use any software whose developers assume their customers are dumb and won't mind bloatware that sucks up their system's resources and scans the HD transmitting anything back to the mothership that it finds. I feel the same way about Windows Media Player. -- Choose Net Neutrality Now or Lose It: www.savetheinternet.com www.spikedhumor.com/articles/28228/Death_Of_The_Internet.html Cal Politics: »www.calitics.com/frontPage.do |

That entire list is suspect. Nothing wrong with AOL if you had it years ago when only dialup was available or have it currently if you live in an area (like this island) where broadband is not very available. It gave me a far superior dial up connection than did Verizon, Earthlink and other ISPs I tried and I didn't need to use AOL browser at all. I currently have AOL free from Road Runner.
That PC World list is just a gripe list and each person's gripe list is going to be different. I consider the current Real Player (not the 1999 version) to be excellent. It is the versions of Microsoft's WMP since 6.4 that badly suck. The only problem with Real Player and Rhapsody (which has fantastic sound and library) is that the tech support is as bad or worse than Symantec's. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy."
