Ads don't seem to bother me much, if ya know what I mean. dadkins, please turn off your ad blocking software and then post a screen shot. No prob! Yeah, I like Outpost Pro! Even a Vonage ad at the bottom!
Outpost doesn't let the ad servers connect, so this time with Outpost off, it loaded alot slower. Outpost is always on... I don't see ads!
EDIT: Can you tell which one is with Outpost enabled? -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

WMP 8 is around 4MB of space and uses 3.87MB of ram on my system
power dvd 7.0 uses 90MB (watching dvd) quicktime uses 500+ MB of ram 75%-89% of an dual core @ 2.6GHz/2.8GHz (AMD cpu) when watching an 100MB HD movie (1080P) real player um i have not used it cause the new GUI sucks and it is not free and has adware/spyware |

| reply to JTM1051 So?? PCWorld doesn't like the 1999 version of Real Player? What does that have to do with the current version???
That entire list is suspect. Nothing wrong with AOL if you had it years ago when only dialup was available or have it currently if you live in an area (like this island) where broadband is not very available. It gave me a far superior dial up connection than did Verizon, Earthlink and other ISPs I tried and I didn't need to use AOL browser at all. I currently have AOL free from Road Runner.
That PC World list is just a gripe list and each person's gripe list is going to be different. I consider the current Real Player (not the 1999 version) to be excellent. It is the versions of Microsoft's WMP since 6.4 that badly suck. The only problem with Real Player and Rhapsody (which has fantastic sound and library) is that the tech support is as bad or worse than Symantec's. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy." With all the boners RealPlayer has pulled over the years lot of people, including myself, I still don't trust them.

| reply to fonzbear2000 said by fonzbear2000 :quite a few times, ive seen people say that the real player sucks-i listened to an mp3 through both real and winamp and they sounded exactly the same-i watched a video on both and they looked and sounded exactly the same-so, why are people against real player? Where to start. That's like asking why AOHell sucks and isn't as popular as say, Firefox. My personal hate for RealPlayer is as follows:
1) Phones home. 2) Installs a buncha shit I don't want/need on my HD. 3) Uses DRM whether you enable it or not.
Has nothing to do with quality or lack thereof. Personally, I just refuse to use any software whose developers assume their customers are dumb and won't mind bloatware that sucks up their system's resources and scans the HD transmitting anything back to the mothership that it finds. I feel the same way about Windows Media Player. -- Choose Net Neutrality Now or Lose It: www.savetheinternet.com www.spikedhumor.com/articles/28228/Death_Of_The_Internet.html Cal Politics: »www.calitics.com/frontPage.do |

| Uh...Real Player hasn't phoned home in a couple of years unless you decide it should. You must be thinking of old versions before Real got with it and got a good privacy policy.
It's WMP player that gives you NO choice and phones home whether you want it to or not. It is also WMP that forces DRM for most everything. I have WMP player above 6.4 non-functional on my computer. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy."
