| The way I look at it Real has tried to reform and I give them credit for that effort. My hatred is for WMP and Microsoft who arrogantly doesn't even give you the OPTION to stop WMP from calling home after 6.4. Plus, you can easily remove Real Player from your computer. Just try and remove WMP 10 from XP which results in 9 being default and it calls home too. You can get it where version 9 files are on the computer but it isn't installed and thus 6.4 is invoked but you can't remove the version 9 files (well you can but they come back). THAT is what deserves hatred not Real Player.

i have wmp 10 and 9 and was always able to disable its so called calling home (not using firewall) both by disabling from with app itself and using a well documented registry edit.

I HATE real player and anything associated with it. I wish it was wiped off the face of the earth.
If I just have to play a real file I use Media Player Classic with real & quicktime alternative. The only other player I ever use is VLC. I only install the codecs I need, I never install codec packs. |

Windows media player has always been a great player.
If you learn how it works, you'd see you can disable anything you want! Remove whatever.
Just need to take the time to read.
WMP has always been the best and never did the things Realnetworks did to get them the rep that many have forgotten.
They haven't fired the people responsible or stopped there
policy, just gotten better at it.
There just happy they are still in business!

Anyway, WMP 11 works great! And I have Real Alternative.
So I don't need the Communist crap! I don't forgive & forget as quick as some I guess.
