Old, yup! But will give you a Small idea why real sucked, sucks and will always suck! {No Anti Steve Gibson/GRC stuff please! Great place!} »www.grc.com/downloaders.htm
RealNetworks Inc. admitted today its RealDownload software could be used to track specific users exact download habits
RealNetworks continues to bend the truth and fails to take responsibility for the behavior of their software.
My full name, and the private eMail alias I always use for on-line purchases, was sent out of my computer to one of Real's servers when I downloaded a file using RealDownload.

| reply to fonzbear2000 i think a lot of the people who put it down do so because of bad experiences with it in the past. i used it a long time ago when it was the only player i could find for real media format files and yes, it was loaded with ads and a pain in the ass to uninstall. i have no doubt that they have improved things in their software since then, but i really have yet to hear any good reasons why it would be a better media player than others like bsplayer or winamp. it really comes down to whichever player has a layout you're comfortable with.
i do agree with people's dislike for windows media player though. i used that longer than anyone ever should and after countless manual codec updates and all that licensing crap for wma formats, i finally gave it up completely. now i'm using nero showtime for video files (i like it's screen capture features) with kazaa codec pack, winamp for all my music, and maybe vlc player for anything that either of those won't handle (like dual audio ogm files). |

| reply to fonzbear2000 said by fonzbear2000 :but ive seen people say they dont like it because of poor video or sound quality-not sure where they get that from Usually this is due to people who put up videos in RealMedia format compressing them far too much. This same thing happens with Windows Media files as well.
It just has to do with the knowledge of the people providing the content. With any compression format you're going to get novices putting up crappily encoded things. Too many people did that with Real files and that's how it got a bad reputation for quality. Not to mention the ....buffering.. That's still a common joke. |

| reply to fonzbear2000 Real Player is better than WMP IMO. They have a much better privacy policy than WMP. They wised up after getting caught a few years ago. Dadkins is correct. It ASKS what files you want associated with it. It doesn't associate any that you don't tell it to. And Rhapsody is sublime. But, Real/Rhapsody has the worst tech support around. So bad that it is even worse than Symantec's and that is saying a lot. I love Rhapsody but every time I break down and get it again...I have some problem and I have to go through incredibly complex hoops that provide no help before I can finally get to be able to contact support and get email support. Then that support is soooo abysmal and I get sooo frustrated that finally I just give up and uninstall Rhapsody and Real again. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy." That's the K-Lite Codec Pack. That is not Media Player Classic. They just happen to include it in their pack. Ya know, MPC works alot better when it has the codecs needed. This is why ALOT of people just get the K-Lite Pack.
Makes things alot easier.
That screenshot sure looks like it says Media Player Classic... maybe I'm wrong. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

1 edit | reply to fonzbear2000 I never liked it. It's bloated and bundled with crap, and did stuff that I didn't want it doing. I didn't even download it on purpose the first time I got it, it was bundled with aim or something. That was years ago though, never bothered to make another attempt at it. |

Codec Packs are not a smart thing to install. Pick and choose what codecs you need so as not to bloat your system up. |

| Yeah, I'll have to vouch for dadkins again on this one. He has a ton of stuff, and it doesnt bog down his machine any. During the K-lite codec pack install, you dont just install every single codec in it. You can pick and choose whether you want FFDshow to handle certain formats, or the codec itself. -- |My Blog|Fegul.com| |

| The K-Lite Codec Pack has a couple of major advantages compared to other codec packs: - It it always up-to-date with the latest versions of the codecs. - It is very user-friendly and the installation is fully customizable, meaning that you can install only those components that you really want. - It has been very well tested, so that the package doesn't contain any conflicting codecs. - It is a very complete package, containing everything you need to play your movies.
Never had any problems in the years I have been using the K-Lite Pack. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

Schrade BOFH Premium join:2005-12-18 Sunnyvale, CA | That's nice, but still moot on the point you're trying to get across (that Media Player Classic asks to associate with files, which it doesn't. That's K-Lite Codec Pack) |
