| reply to Doctor Four You mean 3.0 actually works now? I had it and what a nightmare and support was impossible. I couldn't uninstall it either...that was another mess. I wanted to go back to the earlier version and couldn't.
Well, maybe I will try it again. I had Rhapsody Radio from Listen.com which you can't get from Real (what is that game all about?) but that isn't all that good. To enjoy Rhapsody you need the full service so you can build your own radio stations. But I am not paying $10 a month for shitty tech support if I need it and my experience has been that with Real/Rhapsody you need it.
The quality of the sound is great. Probably be even better on this new Dell that has the SB X-Fi card. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy." Ross Anderson in "`Trusted Computing' Frequently Asked Questions" |

| Yes, I know...Comcast has for over a year (also Speakeasy). I have asked Time Warner corporate three times why Road Runner doesn't offer this to us and the reply has been that no one is asking for it. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy." "Windows 95/98/Me users: Please note that these versions of Windows are not officially supported. No VideoLAN developer uses any of these systems, which makes them hard to support. VLC should mostly work with them, but some incompatibilities might appear.
Virus warning: we have had several reports of trojaned VLC binaries (Sophos detected Troj/Momma-B, and Panda detected Bck/Optix). These are false positives, our packages are not trojaned. The Windows version is compiled on a Linux box, it is highly unlikely that a Windows virus would end there. However be aware, to only download VLC from the above mentioned locations."
Looks like a can of worms.

I see "Someone" is miffed, so I presume no donations where offered.

| reply to fonzbear2000 Seems so, just downloaded KAV -I don't use AV's because I know how to check a file ~Not a good habit in general though for those that don't delve into the Reg files. Came up clean as a whistle. KAV has a nice interface....Trying to decide which one to unzip...
VLC or Realalternative....Lol

| reply to fonzbear2000 ...because when you install it you can never get rid of it. And they hammer and hammer at you to upgrade to a "buy it" version of the player. And they use the most aggravating, intentionally misleading dialogs to trick you into doing what you don't want to do.
They're not nice people. |

said by fonzbear2000 :hmmmmmmmmmmmmm my main issue still on this still isnt being addressed-and that is people saying they dont like real player because it has poorer video and sound quality as compared to other media players Perhaps they're referring to videos and streams that are encoded using Real's proprietary format. Otherwise, when it comes to playing common file types, most players are about the same.
I use RealPlayer via Real Alternative.

| reply to gate1975mlm Real player phones home without your knowledge and permission. I have blocked many real addresses thru host file. (»www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm) There is an alternate real player without the spyware baggage - google for alternate real player.
I have also read that it's impossible to uninstall realplayer completely from your system. Even after you uninstall, it leaves tonnes of stuff all over the place and only a reinstall of OS is the clear way out. |
