Because it's the "IN" thing to do.
I play HD Quicktime videos in Real because it plays them better than Quicktime does!

Dadkins-- This question is about a friend of mine (really!) who uses Real. He's not technically inclined. Says it always played his CD's just fine until recently; now when he brings it up, the song is listed on the bar at top, but when he hits "play", it just shows him ads. I personally don't know anything about RealPlayer, other than the bad rumors that go around. Any thoughts? Thanks.

No idea about the ads... mine is set to play(and rip to 320kbps MP3) as soon as the CD is inserted, so by the time song #1 is finished(usually)... I have the CD ripped!

Sometimes when an update is issued, the settings need to be reset to your(his)personal prefs.

Bobb, yeah, I know. Thing is, RealPlayer is different now than compared to what it was 10 years ago.

Usually this is due to people who put up videos in RealMedia format compressing them far too much. This same thing happens with Windows Media files as well.

It just has to do with the knowledge of the people providing the content. With any compression format you're going to get novices putting up crappily encoded things. Too many people did that with Real files and that's how it got a bad reputation for quality. Not to mention the ....buffering.. That's still a common joke.

Yeah, thanks dadkins. Like I say, I don't know anything about Real, & I only saw the problem for about a minute while visiting the other day. Just that he says it acts completely different than it used to. I'll re-post some other time when I have more info. But thanks anyway for the input.

Real player almost always times out in streaming media for me.
Playing the same in Windows media player no problems, or any other besides quick time.
All payers have the latest update.
Should you ever make the mistake of subscribing to real super pass, and wish to cancel good luck.
Real started charging my account again, 2 months after I received there cancellation letter.
5 phone calls and letter to every address I could find got my money back, Anybody with out a lot of free time would have given up.
Real is still underhanded
