Now there is no technical excuse not to implement à la carte channel selection. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

| I know that & you know that, but the content provider excuse is pretty lame. The MSOs have so much leverage against the Disneys and Viacoms of the world these days that pretending to be David in this Goliath battle is laughable. They're both feeding at the same trough and neither sees any benefit to giving people what they want so they make up ridiculous technical excuses why they can't do it. Just look at some of the cable apologist posts even in this thread. Well, the "its too expensive" card just fell off the table. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

| What LOGO channel?
See, that's the problem. I'm already paying for crap I don't watch or even want.
I don't mind paying to support channels I do watch. It's called a market. Give me Food TV for a couple bucks a month. SciFi for another couple bucks. The rest is broadcast so I don't need cable for that.
You can keep the 100 ESPNs. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

| Why are you paying for crap you don't want? Just cancel everything.
Guess right now you have to weigh each option. Is the crap I like to watch worth paying $X.xx/month for? Or is the crap I do watch even worth paying for at all? -- If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever. |

Or is the crap I do watch even worth paying for at all? This was discussed years ago at a syndication conference. Many local TV stations were being forced to buy a very unpopular TV show if they wanted a popular one. Of course, show producers were un-apologetic while TV stations were not happy.
The way pay TV is setup, it helps certain "niche" stations survive at the expense of more popular stations. The History Channel is popular but maybe not the Golf Channel.
Ala carte programming would force producers to put out quality instead of putting out crap most people will not watch nor pay extra for. |
