| New service and Centrex / Centranet
Hello,
I hope that someone here can provide some advice / direction. I am setting up an office and am in need of DSL and phone service as soon as possible.
Verizon set me up with Centranet lines (being installed today). They said nothing about it being incompatable with DSL - even though I told the rep that I would be ordering DSL service on the line (from DSL Extreme of course!)
My question is: is there a way to provision DSL onto the Centranet line. I"m happy to use the last line in the hunt-group or turn off hunting if necessary. Alternatively, can I get Verizon to reprovision the line to a standard line without delaying the install & DSL order?
Thank you in advance for your help |

| Argh! Verizon is such a nightmare to deal with.
We tried to order DSLX on a Centranet line and (naturally) DSLX said we need a plain phone line. When we called Verizon they swore up and down that they can have DSL installed on Centranet systems and that DSL was simply not available at our address. We later found out that other tenants in the same buildng have DSL.
In short, order a PLAIN TELEPHONE LINE. -- \\ROB - a part of the SCB local network |

2 edits | Yeah - I'm getting the same story right now.
•Verizon says they can provide DSL on the Centranet line no problem •DSLX says they can provide anything Verizon can provide •DSLX says they can't provide DSL on Centranet b/c of line rollover •The Verizon installer tells me that I can't get DSLX b/c I bought a "package" from Verizon and they won't let other providers use the line
At least two of the above statements must be correct, but which two? |

| reply to djrobx We have seen cases where hunt lines do work if the DSL line is ordered on the last hunt line that does not rollover. That being said however we usually recommend that the phone line be a regular phone line as there is no guarantee that it will work on a hunt line. -- Aldo Technical Support Supervisor DSLExtreme Will work for reviews. |

2 edits | Hi Aldo,
Thank you so much for responding. I called Verizon and I think I got the straight story from them (esp. since it jives with what you said). They said that DSL should not be placed on the pilot line of a Centrex hunt group, but it is fine on any other line (they recommend the last line in the chain).
I called DSLX and had my order switched to the secondary (last) line. I'm hoping that the order will go through smoothly and won't get caught up b/c it's still technically a Centrex line.
FYI - Verizon said they would switch my package off Centrex, but it'll cost me an extra ~ $22 per month (!). The non-centrex line is $11 more than a Centrex line, and you can't have just one Centrex line, so they both have to go to POTS.
Aldo - can I ask for you if I run into any snags with the ordering?
Thank you again |
