| [ Express] To Newfoundland customers regarding the speed increas
If you are using the Toshiba PCX1100U via USB, change it to ethernet.
After you change it to ethernet, call Rogers and update your mac id, you will now have the new speed.
If you have any other modem connected via USB, do the same thing.
If you're using ethernet and are not getting the new speeds, unplug your modem for about 10 seconds and reconnect it. |

1 edit | reply to alanjm So did you guys get any mail on this? You would think St john's be the first to get it unless they want to test it in small towns first. Checked speakeasy.net and im clocking out at 250KB. Im using the Toshiba PCX2500 model |

| reply to alanjm I don't live in Newfoundland, but just wanted to let you know that if you don't have the upgrade yet, give Customer Support a call, and they will try to do it over the phone. I finally gave them a call last night and although I haven't gotten the upgrade, at least they told me that it was because my modem was not accepting the upgraded tier. Now, they put out a ticket for me that will hopefully get solved within 24-48 hours.
That was much better than waiting. I should have called them a while back. By the way, I also have the PCX2500 modem from Toshiba. |

| reply to Robert Hi Robert, I found out last evening that I was getting it..try this site in your browser to test your speed.....»ftp://ftp-server.roadrunner.nf.net/ Double-click "docsis-test" and then double-click the 10-meg file. Reply back here as to what your speed was. If it don't change then call Rogers tech they will help you.
Good luck! |

| reply to alanjm I called in and the tech told me that I'm getting the increased speed even though the five speedtest sites I've visited report an average speed of 2.5 Mbps. The "ftp://ftp-server.roadrunner.nf.net/" server is on Kenmount Road and on the same 'internal' network for all intensive purposes. I downloaded the 10MB test file at around 750KB/s but I'm on the same network as that server so I don't think it's an accurate test if the five other speedtest sites report an average of 2.5 Mbps. Increasing the modem cap for Newfoundland customers doesn't make a difference if the off-island link is the bottle neck!! |

Increasing the modem cap for Newfoundland customers doesn't make a difference if the off-island link is the bottle neck!! Umm, I am downloading from many off island servers at about 650/s. Yet just about every speedtest is showing only 2.5. Remember that real world and speedtests are two different beasts sometimes. -- It's one thing to listen to an idiot talk. As soon as you respond, there are now 2 idiots having a conversation. |
