1 edit | [Other] NuFone problem! Need another carrier ASAP! Just got this on my account email address:
quote: Effective 3pm EST Today, April 18th, 2006 Telesthetic, the carrier supporting the Toll-Free and Michigan DID operations of NuFone, has threatened to terminate our services. We were only informed of such decisions on Thursday Afternoon, April 13th, 2006, which as anyone knows is abolutely not enough time to solve the complex matters at hand.
Initially, we were hopeful that we could work out an acceptable deal, at the very least, to allow us enough time to move your telephone numbers to another carrier without much, if any service interruption. Sadly, this no longer seems to be the case.
We are currently working with another carrier to host your Toll-Free numbers. However, you may want to consider submiting a Number Portability request to another carrier, to avoid any service outages caused by Telesthetic's threat to terminate our service. We can always port your number back to our service at later date, at no cost to you.
If you would like to keep your Michigan telephone number you will need to contact Telesthetic directly at 248-724-0600 to determine if they will provide you service or not.
We are going to do everything we can to survive yet another failed business partnership. We do not intend to give up. We can and will prevail through yet another time of great challenge.
We will update you as soon as we have more information.
Thank you for your continued support and words of encuragement.

So, anyone like to share ideas about number porting? Other carriers with a similar rate structure? I have a tollfree DID with them, so I'd like to find somewhere that has comparable pricing.
Maybe I should just wait it out?

| Re: [Other] NuFone problem! Need another carrier ASAP! I looked into them and it seems they have a bad reputation. Doesn't surprise me that they are being threatened like that. -- - Lisa J. Williams AKA PlatinumX »lisaplatinumx.blogspot.com/ | |

| My primary business is long distance, and I can have a carrier help you out on an expedited basis if you would like. You do run the risk of downtime if the current provider shuts off prior to the change. The current provider might attempt to block the port of the number if the nature of the dispute is an unpaid wholesale invoice, but there are tricks around that. I don't know about comparable pricing, as I don't know Nufone's pricing. PM me if you're interested or just wish to discuss. | |

| said by N9MD :If Telesthetic actually controls your number and NuPhone was simply an intermediary sales agent, you will have no problem keeping the number. But at least you will have a Telesthetic contact # to hopefully help to resolve your issues. Not so fast, doc. Let me do the diagnosis. This doesn't work if Telesthetic is buying from a primary carrier like MCI. In fact, checking Resp Org for Telestheic's main phone number shows it is controlled by ATL Communications. It also wouldn't work if Telesthetic doesn't want small accounts or has a high minimum monthly fee. Be careful and don't assume anything. | |

1 edit | said by »nufone.net/press/ :Apr.25.2006 - We realize many people rely on the telephone numbers that we provide, but unfortunately the situation is currently out of our control. We are currently working to resolve the issues with our provider and hope to have service restored soon. NuFone is committed to keeping our customers in the loop during this outage and we will provide daily updates with our progress. Thank you for your continued support during this difficult time. Apr.21.2006 - We are working very diligently to restore service to our Toll-Free and Michigan number services. We expect everything to be restored within a 48 to 72 hour period. We would like to apologize for this outage and once again want to thank everyone for standing behind us and offering assistance. Apr.21.2006 - Telesthetic has chosen to terminate our DID services before allowing us to properly migrate the network elements to our new carrier. A solution is in progress, but due to Telesthetic's lack of cooperation in this situation, your Toll-Free and Michigan DID services have been effected. Outbound calling has not been effected by this situation whatsoever. Unless Telesthetic elects to do the right thing and restore our services, your Toll-Free numbers will be down for a few hours if not most of the day although we hope it will be much shorter. As for Michigan DIDs, we currently have no other carrier that is capable of porting those numbers and Telesthetic has been completely uncooperative with providing us with recommendations on who we could turn to. If anyone has any suggestions, we more than welcome them. We will post updates on our website as we have more information to provide. Thank you for your continued support. Scott -- FWD number 48043. | From the website today:
We have been unable to restore services as we had hoped. We are continuing to work to restore full services, but circumstances beyond our control are slowing the process. Thank you for your patience and continued support.
Wahhhhhh, someone won't help Jeremy. Isn't it ironic.

| What is scary here, is how does a VoIP provider allow such things to get our of their hands?
From NuFone:
Apr.28.2006 We are finally gaining ground with this horrible situation. We have been notified that Toll-Free numbers will be coming back online in batches over the next week. We have been working hard to solve this outage but unfortunately much of the trouble, and the solution to it, has been very much out of our hands. We thank you for your patience and support. Expect more detailed announcements soon.

| Re: [Other] NuFone problem! Need another carrier ASAP! said by druber :i somehow do doubt "jer-jer" has too many customers left (after being off the air for a week now? or is it more?) And the customers he does keep, are probably not going to "depend upon" his service, or keep large balances in their accounts. As such, he will probably be keeping "the small fry", after chasing off "the big boys" (that can't afford to have Nufone's level of uncertainty in their phone service). To put it mildly, any "trust" in his business is shot at this point.
I personally will probably "wait it out", because his service USED TO do what I wanted (mostly toll free incoming, at a fair price). And if his "status report" is accurate, those of us who didn't "port our numbers" already, may actually get back our DIDs in the next week or so.
But even if he pulls his business "back from the brink", I will not "depend upon" him for anything that is "mission critical" (i.e. only use him as a cheap provider, for those things I can afford "down time" with). And I'll also make sure I keep low "balances" in my account at all times (so that if he does just quit service, I won't lose a lot of money). And I suspect that many other Nufone customers will come to the same conclusion. So while he might retain some "bargain hunter" customers (assuming he actually comes back on line in the next week or two, like he is currently promising), he probably has already lost "the big accounts" that can't afford such "uncertainty" in their service.
