| reply to lordkuri Re: [Other] NuFone problem! Need another carrier ASAP!
lordkuri ---
Listen to voiplover, he knows whereof he speaks.
All Toll Free numbers are obtained from SMS/800 (»www.sms800.com/), a consortium that controls the TF pool of numbers in the USA. AT&T, MCI, TTI National, CallHomeAmerica and loads of other TF providers (known as Responsible Organizations or RespOrgs) must get available numbers from that pool.
You should first determine who actually controls your TF#. Call 1-800-337-4194 (AmeriTech RespOrg line) and when requested enter your 10-digit TF number. You will get a voice response telling you the name of the company holding that TF# as well as a toll-free number to contact that company.
If Telesthetic actually controls your number and NuPhone was simply an intermediary sales agent, you will have no problem keeping the number. But at least you will have a Telesthetic contact # to hopefully help to resolve your issues. |

This doesn't work if Telesthetic is buying from a primary carrier like MCI. In fact, checking Resp Org for Telestheic's main phone number shows it is controlled by ATL Communications. It also wouldn't work if Telesthetic doesn't want small accounts or has a high minimum monthly fee. Be careful and don't assume anything. |

But, even if Telesthetic is not the RespOrg, one can get the name and phone number of the actual RespOrg and possibly have some leverage on contracting directly with them (or porting to another TF provider). ---[Or maybe I should just stick to doing colonoscopies!] |
