| connecting to wireless and wired at same time
I have wireless and wired routers.
On my laptop I recently hooked up a cat5 cable to my router and enabled my wireless card to same router while troubleshooting my network.
Basically I had 2 IP addresses assigned to my one computer to the 2 differnet NICs/Wireless card.
Does this setup work? or does the computer ignore one of the connections??
any benefits to dual connections? |

This works fine for me. Ethernet is faster, so when the Ethernet cable is connected, you'll get better transfer rate between the computer and the rest of the LAN.
If I have large files to transfer, I can carry my laptop to my computer room, connect by Ethernet, and transfer quickly. If it's inconvenient to use it in the computer room, I can use the WiFi connection, which is slower but available all over the house. -- Cheers, Chuck MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] PChuck's Network |

| reply to Regal88 You don't.
One connection takes priority over another.
Go to Start-Settings-Network Connections. Click on Advanced-Advanced Settings
You will see a order of network connections. The wired adapter should be first. What that tells Windows is this is the primary connection. All traffic goes in and out of that connection unless it goes down. Then the other one takes over. -- My Domain Nightfall's Hockey and Life Journal |

You can have both connections active on your computer, but only the best will be used at any time. The Windows XP Automatic Metric selects the current best connection. »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/h···tml#Dual -- Cheers, Chuck MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] PChuck's Network |
