Cant select WPA on my laptop...

I recently changed the encryption on my WRT54g to use WPA-PSK TKIP. I went into the network settings of my brothers laptop and my laptop and was able to select the proper encryption type.

When I tried to so the same on my wife's laptop, I don't have the option of selecting WPA, I only have WEP and Disabled.

They are all running WinXP Home w/ SP2

The hardware (including the network card on the client) has to support WPA.

Are the drivers on the laptop up to date? What's the make and model of the laptop, and the network card?

I agree with cacroll. Usually upgrading to the latest NIC driver will fix the problem. Sometimes, the NIC needs a firmware upgrade or just wont support WPA.

That's an old ORiNOCO card with a Hermes chipset. Nice stuff for its time, but it will not support WPA. You'll need to get a newer card for the external slot and disable the internal card (make sure the laptop supports Cardbus cards in that slot, as a newer, WPA-capable card will most certainly be one).
