| Insight Dropping QIC Assistant Software?
I had a problem with the InsightBB QIC Assistant validating my account information this morning, so when I got home tonight, I used the Live Chat feature to talk to an Insight customer service rep. According to him, the QIC Assistant program is being discontinued and can now be uninstalled. Has anyone else heard about this? |

| I had uninstalled it on my old pc and after getting a new PC, I didn't even install the software. It isn't necessary to operate your PC online properly, and all it does is use system resources that start when your PC boots.
There may have been some use for it and one time or another but I never used it. |

| reply to squibbon I haven't heard anything about it yet. I deleted it from my PC recently (I never used it anyway) after finding out it was preventing my router from properly connecting to the internet.
Glad they're getting rid of it, if they are. -- orly |

Couch Potato What? Premium join:2004-08-29 Evansville, IN | reply to squibbon He's correct, as Insight migrates over to the new system, QIC will be no more, in fact, as an installer (contractor), we were told that if we see a computer with QIC on it to uninstall it. |

| reply to squibbon I never installed the QIC Assistant program as it is a resource hog that caused more problems than solutions. I have seen the QIC Assistant program on a friend's computer and it slowed the computer down. I helped them uninstall the resource hog and fix the computer to run fast on Insightbb. I'm glad Insight is dumping the silly beast! -- low cost and fast speed is what customers want in broadband |

|
robbym627 Premium join:2003-09-14 Springfield, IL | it was designed to cause headaches and screw up your computer. I think it was also designed to limit your internet access by not working most of the time. |

| Pretty much! I nearly shat myself when I hooked up my wireless router to it, and couldn't figure out why the hell I wasn't getting any internet connection.
So I tinkered with QIC and found out that you had to go through it to allow access to the router.
So whenever I get customers at work trying to hook it up to their PC and they've got insight, I always let them know in advance that thing will cause more headaches then anything else. -- orly |

| reply to adz133 said by adz133 :i never once downloaded it... what's QIC supposed to do? It was one of those wonderful tools that was supposed to cure all known problems that could occur with your internet connection. It was supposed to offer help that it was never designed to provide. Basically just a tool similar to the old @Home software that was just about as useless. Even though this type of software has been proven to be impractical time and again. ISP still deploy it over and over. Even though history has shown that the software never meets the hype. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics My BLOG ZoneAlarm Help |

| reply to squibbon They're getting rid of it for sure
Ended up losing service earlier today. Modem showed I was getting a connection, just couldn't get the internet.
Apparently the installed new platforms in the area, due to them getting rid of the QIC program.
