WRT54G as a receiver???

I've got a wireless network set up at home that is working fine.

On one of the desktops I'm trying to use a (second) Linksys to receive the main Linksys that is connected to the internet. My 'receive' Linksys sees the 'transmit' linksys but I can't log on. I would appreciate any suggestions.

The setup is not really recommended but because of the constraints of the firmware that you can load on the WRT54G. I think this is also not feasible on a version 5. And you would need a firmware that would be able to support that option.

So you're connecting your router to the pc via ethernet and want to connect to your network wirelessly? I've never tried it but I would assume it's possible.
Be sure to disable DHCP server and to disable SSID broadcasting. Correct me if I'm wrong ppl.

To the OP,

Can you explain how everything is connected - what is connected from what port to what on the wrt54g.

If you can, a graphic would be helpful.

Are you trying to get 2 routers to communicate wirelessly with one another?

As far as I know, the stock firmware of the WRT54G does not have site survey. How are you able to "See" the first router with the second one ? Never mind... You can easily accomplish the task by flashing both routers with DD-WRT firmware and programming them for WDS. This will allow the second router to provide the service that it receives from the first router both to it's wired ports, and wirelessly repeated. Ver 5 WRT54G if you have one is now programmable with DD-WRT.
