| New or upgraded Motorola DVR available?
I had tried both the single tuner and dual tuner models of the Motorola DVR available from Insight (Springfield IL) several months ago, at the time that had gotten a new HDTV. Both had fuzzed the analog channels and suffered dropouts and digital snow on digital channels.... so I finally gave up and had them install the CableCard in the HDTV, which proved sharp and stable. But of course no DVR or other recording capability (inserting a VCR in the line, with its attendent signal splitting, visible worsened the analog channels to point that opted to remove the VCR). Can record from another split (cable modem gets first split (50%), HDTV gets second split (25%), using VCR elsewhere results in it having to share a portion of the remaining third split (less than 25%).
My brother in-law recently obtained a dual tuner Motorola DVR from Insight (Springfield) and reports no digital snow or dropout on digital channels. He didn't comment on fuzzing or lack thereof on analog channels (doesn't currently have an HDTV, which tend to be much more sensitive to this).
My question is.... is there a new model of Motorola DVR being offered by Insight (Springfield)..... or an upgraded existing model or .......?
Or do I just hang tough and pin my hopes on the Tivo Series 3 (dual tuner, HDTV capable, with two CableCard slots) when it comes out later this year?
An alternate someone suggested to me was to boost the percentage of incoming signal available to the HDTV (and a DVR or VCR that one would presumably put on its line) by switcing from InsightBB internet service to DSL.... so as to give the HDTV that first split (50%).
Then again, once get CBS HDTV (July?), will I likely care about analog channels any more? |

1 edit | Only model available is the 6412 Series III. If you are having problems with the signal in the house, it can be the CATV lines within the home (not RG-6), or too many splits causing a low signal issue. And as for Insight going with a TiVo type DVR, that may never happen, due to Insight is the last to grasp new technologies. |

| reply to AnonAnon The Motorola boxes in my opinion don't work as they should. But with that said. New firmware has been pushed out to "fix" some of the reported problems. In some cases Insight still swears issues reported in this forum don't exist. Even though many of us have reported them. You can of course always buy an off the shelf DVR unit or build your own. Several users here have their pc setup to work as a DVR unit.
If you feel your issue is more line related. You could always have Insight come out and check the signal levels etc. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics My BLOG ZoneAlarm Help |

| reply to AnonAnon I have had a lot of issues with signal strength. I am on a rather long run to my house, plus it was wired with rg-59. I rewired with rg-6 quad shield and insight turned up my signal at the box. Things have been much better since then. It may be worth a truck roll to your house and investigate your wiring. |
