Assuming you have an updated AntiVirus program and your OS and browser are up to date with critical security updates....here are what some of us malware fighters face most often. A Baker's dozen or more of the top ten ways we see folks getting infected (props to fellow MVP pieter arntz  aka Metallica for most of these...I added a few  )
Can you add to the list? The most common problems you see in your daily travels to security forums?
1. Look for cracks, subdivided in illegal software and .....
2. well .... the other kind..... Browse the web for free porn!
3. Look for software that adds smileys to your posts, mail etc.
4. Look for kewl skins, screensavers, song lyrics, etc.
5. Look for spyware removers, concentrate on the kind that makes you pay before it removes anything
6. Install a P2P program and repeat all of the above
7. Look for pokergames, slotmachines and other gambling outfits
8. Look for ringtones and other stuff to bling your phone
9. Do NOT pay for anything, the internet is a place where you can steal anything from everyone without even saying as much as thank you
10. Click on those unexpected links and attachments in email, because you're the curious type...
11 Do loan your laptop to the next door teenager (or babysitter, etc.) for the weekend. Give him your Admin account login so he can get his special project done with no hassles
12. Exchanging files in chat rooms and clicking on links in Instant Messeges

Set up a wireless network and leave it unsecured. Don't bother to run a software firewall, as the router "will keep the bad guys out."

All thought they had cleaned up their act a bit and made their uninstall uninstall the program cleanly.

I have #2 covered! 
The site itself hates malware, and as a patron, it is my duty? to flag any possible malware and bring it to their attention.
They are REAL quick take care of the problem.
"Everything on (name removed) is FREE and quite SAFE.
We check manually every single gallery link before we add them. We are totally against popups, trojan virus, spyware, toolbar installs, automatic dialers. Please visit our Help Page to learn more about these problems and how to get rid of them."
Not all freebies are bad... just gotta know which ones to use.

Not all freebies are bad... just gotta know which ones to use. Ok so, you are a dirty old man who has learned the ropes...how do you propose to advise the newbies? You've also spent a lot of bucks to prevent malware. Many cannot afford this or are not in complete control of their PC's?

Lol off topic but is a way to protect a lan with out a firewall on every computer. Have 2 routers useing uplink. But dont allow any thing to com in from the public will use. The protected network is the first router after the modem or what have you.
Least i think this should work with some configs never done it cause never had to. If im wrong educate me infact explain how its done any ways heh.

Yeh.. you can either laugh or cry  and laughter is always better.. I think finding the humorous side of this is the only way to go.. If we don't then the frustrations woulld build to a point where we would all just quit..
