Recently taken an interest in VOIP to save my parents some money, just curious if anyone could offer advice as to a good company to try as a test run. Running a 1.5/384 DSL line. The idea would be to change from Verizon's $70.00 a month unlimited plan to $6 a month metered service as a back up supplemented with Voip. Have run a number of tests over at testyourvoip.com and I have listed the results below. Are these results acceptable for voip service and how reliable are they ? Thanks in advance for everyone's input.

The 'high flyers' (spots of low performance) needs to be addressed on a case by case basis. Testyourvoip isn't perfect -- it has several faults. You need to look if your computer was doing another background task, and look at the detailed report for causes (latency, jitter, dropped packets, etc) before putting up a red flag.
Everyone has lousy results to Helsinki, and unless you are doing PC-to-PC connections there, it really is irrelevant. Depending on which service you choose, you will likely be terminating on the east or west coast of the US.

| This is one of those times where DSL interleaving is an advantage. Gamers hate the extra 32ms latency added to round trips, but the error correction that interleaving provides, that doesn't require you to resend data, is perfect for VOIP. Considering you can't resend voip packet.
This is what I get with testyourvoip.com. Even with helsinki and Sydney and g.729 codec. I removed IP address for privacy. I am a firm believe and lover of the g.711 codec, but I also believe that the g.729 is also a fantastic codec. It DOESN'T create AM RADIO quality like some believe. Is also fixes a lot of phone quality issues that people attribute to the voip provider or the ISP. if you have the capability to change codec, Vonage calls it bandwidth saver, then try that if you ever have problems. I'm currently using Packet8 sip server 63.209.12.27. I pinged this address from a wireless laptop connection. Even still, I have 98% reliability with P8 and have been extremely happy with them for 3 years now.
Ping statistics for 63.209.12.27:
