[northeast] FIOS Now Available to JeepMatt in Delaware!

Holy CRAP! For all those that know me on this board as the Comcast HSI lover, I randomly tried my address again at lunch today on the FIOS site since they had hung the wires in my yard over a month ago - and it finally said it was LIVE!

»Verizon FiOS Finally Hits Delaware

I'm now ordered for the 15/2 package with install next Tuesday (5/9).

I didn't see any upgraded speeds per the rumors on here, but i'm definitely excited. $44.95 per month. $8/mo cheaper than comcast and more than twice as fast. I'll more than likely keep them both for a month to judge the quality of the FIOS service.

I'll keep you all posted!

Are you saying there's a possibility you'd be Comcast-free?

I'm shocked! SHOCKED!!

Ehhhhh....I'd still have Digital Voice.

It's actually a great service - and i'm locked into a 12-month $27 deal.

Will Comcast penalize you on your CDV bill for dropping HSI (if that's what you end up doing)?

They may try after the 12-month deal is done, but I still have a ways to go on that one.

I think the regular price for Digital Voice w/o TV or Internet would be $54.95 a month. So it's not too bad, if you want to keep that service.

That's awesome JeepMatt! I bet my Aunt can get it too now since she only lives a block from you. It's only a matter of time until Comcast brings the 16/1 speed to the area. But hey Fios 15/2 is a better deal, its all about that upload! They are moving that speed package to 20/5 eventually. Post us some pics when its all said and done!

I wouldn't be too sure about your Aunt just yet. Literally right down my street, there isn't even fiber hung yet. I believe they're doing my area section by section. Hanging, testing, Go live, then move on.

But i'll definitely be sure to post pics.

Be sure you do post pics. We people without FiOS wanna oogle your good fortune. You lucky SOB! Also, when you get the FiOS service installed, please be sure to post pictures of everything, speedtest too, etc, etc.

I wouldn't count on it either. As far as I can tell, I'm right down the road from JeepMatt (near foulk & silverside) and I just checked and it still isn't available to me. I've seen verizon trucks on my street nearly every week, and my wife even said they were up on the pole in my backyard a couple weeks ago, but still no fios. Hopefully soon.

I'm not even saying I would definitely switch to them when it becomes available, but I would like it to happen so it forces Comcast to raise their speeds in this area as well. Fios install for me will be messy, so I'm not sure its worth the hassle if Comcast can hit me with 16 MB downloads for a close price. But if/when they start offering Fios tv near me, then it might become worth my while.

Hey RR-
Yeah, i'm in Chalfonte - they seem to be bringing live small pieces of the area one at a time. The area closest to Silverside has been live for a few months, while my part, which is closer to Grubb, is just going live.

Yes my Aunt can get fios. I put in her phone number, so the 2400 block of Dorval road is ready to go.

Now too bad I don't live in that area... its really nice.

Damn! If she's on the 2400 block of Dorval, then YES, she is close to me - and she's in the same "block" of neighborhood they just strung up.

Congrats!

Hey guys-
Any tips on what to bump my Receive window to, etc using Dr.TCP thing?

Right now i'm set for 8/768 cable, so i'm assuming i'll need to bump it up.

No problem Trade.
I'll be sure to take pics and notes.

But, as a disclaimer, i'm actually "working from home" that day - so I won't be able to do minute-by-minute updates.

I'll be logged into work via VPN through Comcast while they're setting up the FIOS.

I'll give PingPlot comparisons, speed tests, installation pics, ask and you'll receive.

Right now in the house there are 2 desktops, 1 laptop and an XBox. (And occasionally either my or my roommates work laptops, so at the max there would be 6 connections)

I think I'll start off with my desktop hooked up to FIOS, then add the laptop, Xbox, then finally the other desktop. The one thing i'm not sure of is if i'll keep Comcast live for the whole month or not while testing.

Wow - that's like... 64 combinations, isn't it? You sure you have time to document them all??!?!?!?!!?

I'm mostly interested in one on one - your desktop on Comcast, then your (same) desktop on FiOS.

Glad SeattleMatt See Profile is going to do all of that testing. FiOS is close to me and between my 2 Macs, the 2 PCs, the Xbox 360, and my work laptop it would take me forever to do all of those tests. Then again, I'm in NJ and have OOL.

I just wish Verizon would just get to digging already! All the aerial stuff is done in my town.

I had my 1st taste of FIOS yesterday...visited my old roommates's sister's house in Malvern for a BBQ.

It was a new Toll Brothers development on Rte 401 - it was built from the ground up wired for FIOS! I was able to see the ONT, the batter backup in the garage, and she let me play on her laptop..of course i did a speed test and tracert...lol.

5ms to get out of the Verizon network..surprisingly the next carrier(at least here in the Philly area) is Alter.net (as opposed to ATT.net w/Comcast). But 5ms?? Sweet.

Speed tests were 4800/1700. She laughed and told me to let her know how I like it after Tuesday.

Verizon's software that they look to install at least on 1 machine during the setup sets your RWIN to some high 370k number. I don't think you'll see any difference over 256960.

And what are you going to "test" with the combinations? All you want to make sure is each machine is getting near the max on their own. What does A+B vs B+C tell you?

You know Mike this reminds me of the conversations you posted about 2 years ago when you were so amped on getting OOL and dumping Comcast.

Hmm...I don't remember that, considering that I didn't make the switch to OOL until September and it wasn't even a possibility until I put down the money on the place that I live in back in January of '05.

Interesting about alter.net being the new verizon carrier. When did they switch over? Routing is the same on my dsl here. alter.net is the mci/uunet network isn't it??

Look back to around 03. You make references about a relative having OOL 10/1 and your Comcast connection. Since would be around the time your were posting local Comcast franchise town meetings on your Comcast webpage. Ring a bell now?

Yeah. Back when most Comcast users had 1.5/128 while my aunt had 10/1. Now I have 15/2 and am happy.
